Hard Worker?

Do you work 'hard' in whatever role you're employed to fill? I mean, I know that there are lazy ass people (such as myself) who will do the bare minimum till deadline day and then get mad stressed.. but there are people who break their back everyday regardless of the importance of task they are given..

I personally think that when I get a job that I love, they will be no stopping me for 9 hours a day*.. but until then, I'll just see the week through with as little hassle as possible thanks :v:

*Maybe 4 or 5 hours, but significantly more than present time ;)

Bah... I'm jobless, and a bum.
I used to break my balls in work (Thinking that it may lead to something and even got opportunities in work to do new things because of this, with the same pay of course, scabby ****s) but then I saw that around me others got the same pay for hiding and getting by. Considering this i used my reputation as hard worker to get work in less supervised sections of my job and people just assume i work as hard as ever.

My hard work has setup a platform as a dosser, I'm still approached to do important stuff but at quiet times i pretend I'm allready doing important stuff and sit on my fat hole!, **** em and their non promotion givin' ****in heads!!!

I haven't done a tap in weeks!! In fact today all I've done is ****ed around on boards :) (an account that I only setup cos i decided I was doing nothing this week)

Bah... I'm jobless, and a bum.
I think the importance of the work itself determines whether I will work hard at something or not.

If it was a long-term project I wouldn't really bother my arse, but if it was due in a week or two then I would concentrate on that alone.

My philosophy is - do as little work as possible (without doing so little that you will get fired) for the pay that you get - that way you are getting your wages easier than the lad who is breaking his back working hard for the same pay.

People normally get promoted via politics and "I like him/her" rather than hard work.

    ...

But if I like a job I'll try my best. I do find it hard to "work hard" when I'm doing something ****ty though...

Hard work?! I laugh in your face!
I work my ass off, it's rarely noticed, sometimes I do even three times the work of others I work with..
I don't take sick days and I even went straight to work after being crashed into a few weeks back. I think I'd go mad if I sat around doing nothing all day, but then again, I do find time to have a look on boards every so often! :)

My job doesn't demand a whole lot from me but I do put a fair bit of effort into it.
Some days I'll get very little done but that'd be because theres nothing to do, but if theres a job that needs to be done I'll do it.

I do fully agree with you on that point, but a lot of the older generation feel that it's their duty to put in an 'honest' days work.. and I know that older people (granddad, uncles etc) would disapprove of me poncing around an office all day gettin the same wage as them.. but thats begrudgery I suppose.. hmmmm

I notice if you do over time and break your balls each day
you get no thanks and even better when you can not do
over time you get the look, the look that says c**t!
I try to do no work at all and sometimes even go around
moving items to make it look like I was just after doing
something. If a company expects you to work they should pay
you well for it,The pay I am on requires me to work approx
one hour maybe,I,m sick of breaking my balls,I have washed
the Blood and sweat off my broken balls so I am
    gonna sit back and try
    let them heal!

I work like a divil and it usually goes unnoticed, I do all the crappy jobs that everyone hates [putting out rubbish, sorting hangers etc] without being asked. I am left unsupervised though most of the time and I am well respected by the other staff. I love my job though so i dont care

I'll work as hard as I can so that the job I'm doing will be done on time.

But in my part time employment days it was a total different story!

Outside of work, I am a lazy bum, especially when it comes to college work. I can't really doss in work unless its quiet, so normally I'm run off my feet, so I really dont have a choice.

Bah... I'm jobless, and a bum.
My job has sucked some of the life out of me  Some days I'll work like a bastard and others I'm prone to bouts of extreme lethargy. Needless to say, these are my favourite days!

I do enough to get by.
i never ring in sick unless i really am, i go in hung over if i have to and sleep as much as i can during the day.
the people i work with are basically the same, we do as little as we have to.
there are days when some things HAVE to be done, so we do them as best we can. but if there's a chance to doss, which there usually is, we will take the oppurtunity.
although there are days were we are very proud that we did so much in one day as much as it killed us atthe time of actually doing it.

I work hard at my job... I don't really have much choice but to! In college, I work hard when I need to, otherwise I'm a lazy bum. Though I *did* spend 5 hours playing a DS game in college today, despite the fact I have a programming assignment due on Monday which I'm not finished.

Same here. I'll work my balls off as and when the need arises, but fortunately that's not the norm where I work so I do what's expected of me every day, sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less, and go home as early as I can.

Im a bit of a work freak to be honest , a perfectionist I suppose , I work my ass off every day and if they allowed me Id probably take the work home just to double check it , I stress a lot that Ive made mistakes along the way and then I stress that theres bits Ive forgotten to do if I get a job done quickly.

Then again I do like the job so usually the day goes really quickly , I did have a couple of incidents of dosing off in work which aint good but I put that down to the stress I was under at the time also not sleeping worrying about workloads didnt help the situation either. Bloody tax returns

I'm a little bit like OLDYELLAR. If work is presented to me that I'm enjoying doing, or that I've *really* immersed myself in, I'm tempted to not even go home, and just continue working. Common sense and "It'll still be here tomorrow" eventually kick in though.
On the other hand, if something mundane or boring is presented, it'll sit waiting to be done, until I have five or six similar mundane tasks lined up, then I'll just hammer through them in 10 minutes.
If there's a lot of work lined up for me, I'll keep at it, whether I enjoy it or not, cos I hate having things hanging over me, waiting to be done.

I know when I get too long in job, cos I find myself doing less and less (surfing boards when there are things waiting to be done :o) and still doing twice as much as everyone else cos it's all old hat.

i'm in the exact same boat. if i'm interested, and there's some sort of goal set for me, i'll work like crazy to get to the end, then move on to the next thing.

strangely i find it hard to apply this ethos in college. probably because i don't get paid...

Bah... I'm jobless, and a bum.
i used to work me bollocks off till i realised the company didnt give a **** and just capitalised on my naivette. now i watch DVDs on my hidden portable dvd player (just got through season one of "sledge hammer", god it was a laugh) and knock back the tea.

take today. basically read my entire "supreme power" collection (its a comic) and did 2 suduko (or however your meant to spell it). only had 8 customers and managed to fob off 3 of em and got the report wrote up in 5 minutes then headed home.

learn my lesson young 'uns. your company wants to screw as much out of you as they can. so return the favor every chance ya get :D

When I am doing something I love I will work day and night if needs be, and I will enjoy doing it (kinda:) )
    :)
I would be willing to travel miles, and to work all the crazy shifts you can throw at me as long as I am doing what I wanna do.
What do I wanna do? RADIO!!!!!
From as early on as I can remember, all I have ever wanted to do is work in the media industry. I got a lil typewriter for Christmas when I was 7, and my first article was published in the parish newsletter in time for my first holy communion. (true story ye know :D )
Since then I have tried my hand at a little bit of everything, from acting, singing, presenting on tv (I used to review CD's on POPSCENE back in the day) extra work, journalism, creative writing, presenting on radio, producing, researching, all that jazz, got me a HND in journalism, a HND in radio broadcasting and finally, a degree in media production and mgt, and I am still at it, chipping away at the media block, waiting for that 'big' break.

Honestly, I would be prepared to work in radio FREE of charge from monday - friday, as long as I had a part time gig at the weekends to pay the bills, I really would.

Right now, I am temping, doing admin type work, and it is the most boring, and mind numbing work I have ever done, and I would say they get about 50% out of me for their money. I know thats not really very fair of me, although in my defence, the 50% effor seems to get the work done, so maybe thats all I really need to be doing at the moment.

I have a pretty big deal interview tomorrow, as in, big, massive, gigantic deal for me, probabaly not even a blip on the radar for the station, but still, its the closest I have gotten to anything positive in a long time.
