I'm considering getting my nipple peirced.

Would be grateful if ye guys (and girls) could give me some info.

Am not gonna ask if it hurts, I know it does, but as the saying goes "no pain, no gain"

So.... how long does it take it heal roughly??
What after care do ye recommend?
Can certain clothing irriate the peircing?
Can they be taken out and put back in after an hour or so, for say.... when I'm training (I do Martial Arts)?

    All info appreciated!!

    Thanks,
    Memphis

I have both of mine done.

They do hurt getting them done and ive had a fair bit of work done.

Dont get them unless your willing to maintain them/ the piercing as they rub alot and are prone to irritation---(particulary at weekend and your rowdy with mates )

Personally speaking i think your mad getting them done if you do martial arts-recipe for disaster. From experience even sleeping with someone the piercing can snag v easily and really really hurt.

Im sure loads of people are gonna disagree and say get them done there so sensual...but thats bull. If you do sports and are a guy (as I am) then they ARE going to get hit/rubbed/irritated. :D

    Good luck

It can take anything up to 18 months

What after care do ye recommend?

    standard saline solution

Can certain clothing irriate the peircing?

it is more that they can get caught in stuff, the worst is the side of a door, you will know what I mean when you do it first ...ow

Can they be taken out and put back in after an hour or so, for say.... when I'm training (I do Martial Arts)?

Once they are healed it is no problem, make sure to have some ky for after a cold shower as the hole will shrink (ooh err mrs ;0)

    All info appreciated!!

    Thanks,
    Memphis

    Hope that helps a bit.
I have both done a good while now.

The healing time varies from person to person, and depends on how deep & where the incision is made .. but you are looking at several weeks if not months.

A piercing is essentially an open wound ... so a level of hygiene/care is needed if you want to avoid infection & improve the healing process

Some advice on this link may be helpful ... http://www.buddhas.com/care.htm

Yes, certain fabrics & clothing can impact the piercing ... avoid tight t-shirts & tops for a while ... go for clothes with natural fibres that won't shed.
Trust me on this one ... DO NOT PLAY RUGBY !!

Once you are fully healed, taking the piercing out for several hours won't present any problems

    good luck:)

Nipples take forever to heal.My two took well over a year before they were healed fully.I wouldnt recommend taking them out ever but a sticky plaster over them while training would be alright as long as you dont have really hairy nipples

Got mine done almost 2years to the day, eh basically after i got em done i wore a baggy shirt for a while just to make sure i wasnt irritating them or getting them caught on anything. Make sure your mates dont nipple cripple you or punch ya there because you may(will) end up getting very angry! :)
Took mine a good year and a bit to heal properly. Just make sure to treat them with care and that. I havent taken mine out for longer than a few minutes but then again i havent had the need to take them out for prolonged periods of time other than to clean the bar etc.

All your questions have already been answered really but I just wanted to add something in relation to the martial arts bit.
Make very very sure that you take proper precautions to protect your piercing during the healing period when you will not be able to remove the jewellery. It is surprisingly easy to snag it on clothing or to bump into somebody and cause serious irritation (and seeing as you will be coming into physical contact with people during training there is obviously a high risk of this happening).

Somebody else mentioned sticky plasters to prevent snagging, but even with these you'll have to be extremely careful about contact in that area.
Never underestimate how easy it is to cause accidental damage and skip on the protection, you will more than likely end up sorely regretting it (quite literally).

Speaking from a female point of view, the experience is in no way pleasant, and the male nipple contains far more nerve endings than the female. I've had mine almost ripped out from something as simple as somebody brushing against me in the pub, so be warned.

I must be the most unlucky bastard about because I had my nipple pierced 4 years ago and its still not right. Its red and inflamed a lot and still get bleeding and pus on a regular basis.
I have kept it in now out of sheer bloody mindedness, after going through this hell I would have wasted my time by simply having it removed.
I got it done in Metalmorphosis so maybe that has something to do with it, can anyone recommend where I can go to get it sorted out properly

It's quite possible that you are either allergic to the jewellery or that it was pierced at an incorrect angle to start with, and so cannot heal properly. Either way, go and speak to a reliable professional piercer about it and get them to take a look. Unless it's just an allergy to the jewellery, your best bet might be to take it out and leave it to heal up before getting pierced again :(

I've got mine done around 2 years and it's only just sarting to heal. The ring is very stiff in the hole and if it gets twisted it's very painful to twist it back so that the ball is in the centre. I've also got an 11 month old child and every time she sees it she makes a grab for it. I'm considering taking it out because one of these days she's gonna get to it before I do. I also got mine done in metalmorphis although I got it done first around 7 years ago by a hairdresser with an ear piercing gun, for a fiver.

    Thanks all for your replies.

Am a little overly concerned about any physical contact to the area, and though covering it with a plaster may be one solution I'm not sure it'd be a very reliable one when doing Martial Arts. I'm just gonna have to put the whole idea on the back boiler.

I mean is it really worth getting done?? Sounds like too much hassle, with after care, and trying to avoid getting hit in the area, which is most liklely to occur during my training!

I was in with Snakebite the other day and talked to them about the same thing.
My piercings are well healed so he gave me shaped ptfe retainers that he cut and trimmed to shape for me and gave me pads to cover them with too, I said I would try it out. It is what they normally give for martial arts he was saying.
Thing is I am well over the two year mark with both piercings.
I'll report back how it is.

Are you using salt soaks on it all the time? Seriously a week of soaks at the outside would sort something like that unless there is another problem there, is the jewellery scratched? Is it to do with a thread on the outside of the bar maybe, external threading causes problems for people which is why they are all internal these days? Go into Snakebite and ask them to have a look and help to sort it out.
