    Hi All,
I have recently moved into an appartment which is cabled by Sky Conway. Now i am not happy with not being allowed have any other provider and am persuing this through the Competition Authority, for the tim ebeing though i had to get the subscription for the wife. What i want to know is if i put on a freesat(view?) box on the end of the cable when connected should i be able to get the rest of the channels? They only provide us with about a dozen chanels all of which are freeview anyway and charge us for this privelage!!!

I am quite annoyed with them so if i can do this it would help me somewhat before i go installing a satellite dish on the balcony. If i could get a freesat box off someone to test this would be great, i would pay something for the trouble..

    Terms:
    * Freesat= FTV (Free to View in UK): C4 Five and Sky3 in UK only. needs UK card and Sky Digibox or Sky+
    * FTV (Free to View) in ROI: Sky3 on cancelled Irish Card. Needs card and Sky Digibox or Sky+
    * FTA (Free to Air): Any satellite receiver, no card
    * Freeview: UK Terrestrial Digital TV, needs DTT or DVB-t box, TV aerial and no card.
    * TopUp TV: Some pay channels on UK DTT (see Freeview) that need a Card.

A Sky Digibox, Sky+ or FTA Satellite receiver need an LNB and Dish feed direct.

Given lack of comunal Satellite installs (A shared dish LNB and distribution switches) in Ireland, I wonder is it a local cable system?

I have no idea who these people are. If it is communal Satellite, then any Satellite receiver will give the 90 odd free TV and 70 free Radio (See ICDGopedia in Sig). If they have muliple receivers feeding a small cable system then a Sky or any other box won't work.

In any case connecting probabily requires a subscription.

    HI Watty,
Thanks for the reply. It is a communal satellite and i was hoping that the freeview reciever would work. I really need to get my hands on one to test for sure.

Sky Conway are a shower of robbing $$%*&£$ in case you were wondering!!!
60 install and 15 a month for free stations because you cant get anyone else on the building, Even though they are called SKY conway, they dont provide sky channels....hat a joke.

    Hi Gibo

Is it a standard Sky Digibox that Sky conway use? if so then I's imagine that a Standard FTA box or Sky Digibox with FTV would work if it is a communal dish setup.

no box at all, i guess they have sky boxes set up somewhere hidden, so nothing in the apartment itself...

Then a Sky box in the aparment is only usefull if you have a south to south west window and a Dish in the room :)

My Daughter an her husband offered the Cable TV in their apartment several times despite saying no. The Chinese & Polish tenants have climbed onto roof and set up dishes. (no dish installs allowed). You can't see the dishes from the ground unlike thouse attached to balconies. I gave them a six element mini yagi set top aerial and they get 4 perfect channels free.
