A friend of mine has just got a new ibook with tiger - however on startup it is looking for classic which is not installed.

the ibook seems to be set up to look for and start from tiger on the hard drive - however there is a preference ticked somewhere (sorry dont have the ibook here) which has start classic ticked but it is greyed out so its not possible to untick that option.

I checked the user account start up and classic is not included there.

any suggestions on how to solve the problem?

There should be a root account but I was just throwing that out as an idea to check, maybe you could log in as root and uncheck it.

Can you install OS9 from the install disk and then maybe after that you can untick the option and uninstall OS9? (Not sure how easy it is to uninstall OS9 though). You should be able to find the OS9 disk on the second install disk iirc.

Also, is her user account set up as an administrator? Maybe she doesn't have administrative permissions?

I did check this but there is nothing on startup looking for anything to do with Classic.
