Has anyone used one of these?
I'm thinking of getting one to use as a cheap modeller for recording my guitar parts.

I've heard it in action and I think it sounds pretty satisifactory. But what I want to know is can I use it to model the guitar sound while using Cubase SX to record it?

No its very limited... you can't even listen to it through your computer. You need external earphones/ speakers for it. You can try running the sounds through the pc but there is alot of interferance.

I think what you need is the Line6 TONE port. Its very similar but you can record on your pc as far as I know.

    EDIT: Great demonstrations/info here.

You might pick up a POD cheaper and it would be better for direct recording, I got a Tonelab off of Beecher and its great.

I'm not sure the PODs have interfaces to the PC either. So you'd need to buy the pod and something with a decent line-in.

The pod xt and xt live have USB connections which will act as a sound card so you can record from it.

Are you sure you can send the signal to the pc over the usb properly though? The Guitar Port has usb too but the sound is terrible when you route it through the pc. I'd imagine its the same setup for these and the USB is just for adding patches etc

Yeah, mate of mine used to record his stuff that way. Sounded pretty good.

PodXTs sound perfect going through USB. Its how I record my bass and I love the sound.

If you get anyway serious about recording you'll want a decent soundcard anyway, so why not get one now and pick up a pod cheap on ebay?

I already have an M-audo Delta 1010Lt soundcard so I'm pretty much sorted on that part.

But those Toneports seem pretty cool. I didn't even know they existed until you mentioned it.

podxt's are the handiest thing to get decent guitar sounds directly into a computer, i only got one last year, and it made recordings so quick and easy to do, id recomend em to anyone who wants to record guitar tones, u hook it u via usb and into the computer for the easiest way, u need a 1/4 jack adapter thing, but its simple to setup and use, ive recorded a few songs if u want smaples... i jus use - guitar > pod > cool edit pro

No point getting a toneport if you already have a delta 1010lt!

I got the Toneport UX2. And I tell you. It's freakin' awesome! And in all fairness, despite what you said freakonaleash, the toneport and the Delta compliment each other quite well. One does what the other doesn't and vise versa in many ways. And the recording quality with it is lush.

It's pretty much completed my home studio I think.

Can the TonePort hook up to Guitar Port online?

    I don't think so.
