Has anyone used it? What are your opinions on it?

It seems like a very a good lens, I have read a few reviews giving it a good rating, and it is selling at a nice price point (~290 euro).

I am thinking of getting a 350D body only and the Sigma 18-200mm, instead of getting the body and kit lens. Most likely will opt for Kea photo on ebay, and hope customs don't get too nosy...

(By the way, this would be my first foray into d-slr territory, so I am trying to keep prices down, while i'm learning my way..)

Sounds like a plan , while you will definitely improve on the kit lens option , be aware that having a 10 x zoom in the SLR range will decrease image quality by a lot ( 200 /18 equals more than 10 ) , expect barrel distortion at the xzoom end and pincushion at the widest , with SLRs it is better to keep the zoom at about 3 x for each lens and have lenses to cover the range of say , 20mm to 300mm , which should be about 3 or 4 lenses plus a couple of good primes for portraits etc. For some good advice look at this , note that the widest angle is the most expensive , but there are some comprimises ,

Personallly I'd consider another choice. Like Andy said above, image quality can be quite poor in super zoom lenses compared to primes or lenses with smaller zoom ratios.

The only time I would consider one is if I was travelling or in any other situation where the advantage of having one lens outweigh the compromised image quality.

having said that, it's defiantly the way to cover a large range of focal lengths on the cheap!
