Noticed the EO thread, and was wondering if anyone else has sat the current round of HEO/AP exams? I need to let off a little steam....

i did the AP one on Friday, guess it is the same one?
they were ridiculous alright, such a pile of stupid questions. could do it again today and answer them all differently!
was expecting it to be like that though..

Same test alright. My main beef was with the numerical reasoning test...35 questions in 35 minutes! I was reading a book with the same tests, and it said to allow 5 minutes per question. A deeply unpleasant experience, who on earth are they looking for?

i don't think anyone got the numerical test finished. I noticed there were a few people around me who only got 3/5 done. It is only used as a cut-off anyway.

i.e once you reach a certain mark in it you made ths cut-off point and they rank you based on the other 2 tests..

I'd have been thrilled with 3/5ths! The whole thing was a bizzare experience.

agreed, not sure I'd want to go into the civil service but the experience of the exam and tbh the type of people who were there and desperate to get the jobs put be off a bit more. A friend of mine just quit a HEO job also as it was so mind numbing..

still want to get the offer at least though.

Yes would like the offer. I find the vacations very attractive, and mind-numbing is less of a problem given the character of my current employment. Mind you, definitely a strange class of punter in the hall alright.

This is something I might consider in few years. What kind of hold do these guys get. I know they get paid quite well to and overtime is non-existent for them, or if they do it they get more money or more time off

the money is alright, dunno about no overtime or extra money though. I think it's more that most people don't bother, a couple of people I know there do extra hours etc and don't get anything for it, but a lot of this is to get work done that people in their section can't be bothered to do..

It all depends on what level you are at though. I think they holidays are 30 days a year? Not sure.

30 days for AP, 28 for HEOs.
