do you have a particular interest in an area of art/ crafts or design, and would like to meet new people to discuss it with/work with to get other view points and ideas for your work?

(im going to give this sticky a trial run as it could be a great opportunity to bring artists and crafters together as it might be a wonderful opportunity to meet new people/ learn new technques)/and maybe have a nice coffee too.

    ideas for groups could be:

    Watercolours/ Oils/ Acrylics (eg a painters group)
    Various crafts, origmai/ sculpture/pottery/scrapook making/knitting
Stetchers group (who say meet up and do sketches of various things)
Design group/ animation/ real life and still life
    Graphic design groups

also location would want to be named as im sure people are form different areas. and if you support a group stick your name down for it.

I'd be interested in painting and sculpture(ceramic) anyways, but If there were others I'd go along and see what was there.

Oh, that's Dublin during the week and Waterford at weekends...

im willing to give any art groups a shot but I am partial to stuff like sketching etc (Dublin area).

Maybe an idea would be to bring our completed pieces and set a theme say every two weeks for something we have to create for the next one, and meet up in a cafe or something?

I am very partial to mosaic art with particular reference to micromosaic and am based in the Dublin region.

As part of developing within the field of mosaic art I am also working to improve my sketching/drawing ability, so a group focused on either would be very welcome.

Anyone know of an Arts/Crafts group in Balbriggan? Or anyone interested in setting one up if none exists? Ideally the group would meet once a fortnight, or once a month, and everyone would bring along whatever craft they are working on (it's cross-stitching for me at the moment :) ) and work on it for a couple of hours, swap crafting tips, meet new people, etc.

I'd be interested in a group for sewing / knitting / embroidery / macrame or anything along those lines. Based in Malahide but am in town every weekday until lateish so could meet in city centre if necessary.

My email is mod snip no emails. send pm

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 503 ✭✭✭aniascor

I'd prefer if it was in the Balbriggan area, because I was hoping to get to know a few people in my new locality. However, that being said, I pass through Dublin city centre on my way home every evening during the week, so I could also meet a group in the city centre.

And as beretta_surf said, sewing/knitting/embroidery, etc. would all work well.

I'd be interested in anything in the Tubbercurry area (Co. Sligo): drawing, painting, bookbinding, papermaking and marbling, papier maché, jewellery, pottery, jewellery, fabric painting, mosaic, beading, etc.!

    THANKS!

Hi! I'd be really interested in doing anything related to bead/ jewellery making, I have some basic skills but would love to learn more. Plus, that person looking for someone to teach them to sew on a machine, I'd love to do the same. Am in the Ballsbridge area, but dont mind travelling a bit!

    Hi
I live in Monkstown and go to the Grafton Academy which is in Ballsbridge area. They have short courses one evening per week on putting together a simple pattern and learning to use your machine. You should give them a ring. What kind of machine do you have?

If anyone is interested in Life Drawing there is a weekly group that meets in the United Arts Club on Fitzwilliam street. It's each Wednesday at 6pm till 8pm. Contact Brian Gallagher at brian@bdgart.com for details. Not expensive and the models are excellent. There is a bar upstairs for anyone interested in discussing art or drawing afterwards. Plus each year they have an exhibition of the work produced by the regulars. Can't reccommend it enough. Totally informal.

    Hi

I am in Fairview and interested in Beading and also Candlemaking an soapmaking ?:)

I think that's a great idea to set up a craft group. Most counties already have craft groups set up but they are generally for people actively working in those areas. I'd be interested in any sort of glass making (perhaps even to teach people who were interested?), or indeed sketching/drawing/notebook preparation. Dublin area.

I would like to learn everything about clothes making and fashion design: sewing, pattern making, sketching, etc. Anybody to teach me the basics or share any kind of useful information? I am an absolute beginner (recently joined a sewing course) but really passionate about it. Also, if there is any art\craft group, I would like to join..

There's a great site www.olannban.net which lists mainly knitting groups across the country but many of them are "open houses" for cross stitch, embroidery, crochet and any craft generally. I know there's one in Malahide, Blackrock, Rathmines, Wicklow, Drogheda etc.

    Worth a try!

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 5,555 ✭✭✭tSubh Dearg

Anyone in the Rathmines knitting group? Is it still running? Or would there be anybody interested in starting a knitting etc (all types of threads allowed) group? I'd be interested in learning crocheting/quilting too. Mainly in Dublin 6 but can travel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,381 ✭✭✭snorlax

as far as i know the knitting club in rathmines is in cafe moda, so may be worth giving them a ring to see if it's still running (as far as i know it wa slast year) :)

All knitters (and crocheters) of all skill levels are very welcome to be a part of this informal knitting circle. Questions, send me a private message via boards.ie.

This forum is something I will definately be recommending. I send it to everyone from fine artists to potters, patchworkers to jewellers and anyone in between.
If you would like to join this growing group, email me at
    harperkaren@eircom.net
Finding somewhere to join others in the plight to find good suppliers and great deals is always high on priority!

FEEDBACK is run by the Irish Craft Association to support, assist, and help artists and craft people move forward in their business.
It is a casual meeting of like minded people.
The next meeting is in Hanley Centre, Dunlaoire, Co Dublin. 10.30 - 11.45am

It is set up for everyone from students to 'been around for a while' crafts people and artists. It is also interested in having craft/art suppliers and services as members.

Feedback meetings are where everyone gets a chance to give their view on what is needed next for crafts and help eachother along the way, helped along with refreshments. It is definately not a lecture or formal affair.
It really works on the individual and their needs.

As the Irish Craft Association grows it hopes to set up these feedback meetings where ever they are requested.

The meetings can be used in many ways - to start a craft together or an open space to get it all out, this is especially vital when you work from home, alone.
There will be competitions throughout the year, the one coming up is called 'tea cosy'.
The word ‘craft’ conjures up an old fashioned idea of traditional wares, and the competition is to show how modern and exceptional craft can be!
Just to let you know, there is modern thinking and open minds out there! For information email irishcraftassociation@gmail.com
