Lots of people have 'road rage'. I wouldnt think about it too much if I was you.

A few months ago I was told I had toad rage as well. But sure with so many useless drivers on the roads how can you not have road-rage? :D

    -Hands up-

Other drivers make me crazy, I use a range of colourful language, and for the really *special* driver, they might get some sign language..

Take the women off the roads, and you'll see a lot of the men's road rage cases decline.

What an utterly ridiculous thing to say. Remove abnoxious @rsehole men who believe they own the road, therefore need not indicate when switching lanes and drive right in front of you.. when all you have is inches worth of braking distance.

some men can make those Inches Count :p

Nahh road rage is just silly....

yes people get pissed off while getting cut up , or as i like to say "getting bombarded by Dum dums" on the road.

I did up a few signs like that a few years ago. Didn’t get much use as I was always busy shouting at the other driver and making hand signals.
Stopped the shouting when a friend pointed out that they couldn’t hear me and I just looked like a looney pulling faces.

My mam gave someone the finger one time and he got out of his car and started banging on her window. She nearly died and was pretty scared. So that thought us all to curb the aul road rage.

I’ll do the odd hand gesture now but I’ve calmed down an awful lot.

He got out and banged on her window? fcuking nutjob. I would have reacted somewhat differently there..

I used to get pissed off at learner drivers when I was a learner driver.

I ahve to be one of the most paient drivers. My friends look at me in shock when I don't react when people do incredibly stupid things on the road. I just shrug and drive on.
It's my opinion that people who go nuts at other drivers are self conscious about their own driving skills. Pointing out somebody elses flaws just makes them feel better

We were coming back from Galway and my friend made a sign saying "I'm not wearing any pants". Seemed to get a good reaction, the best was when the car he showed it to overtook us on the motorway and whoever was in the passenger seat pulled a mooner at us:eek: :v:

I asked him to make up a sign saying "back off" (oooh threatening) when some dude was up my rear but he didn't have any more paper!:(

Well my dad used to always do this when we were in the car with him and I have to say, it's definitely improved my knowledge of the road.

Sure when you shout and roar at somebody you're the one that ends up looking like an arrogant pr!k. Thats why I don't bother, anyway people feel worse when you give them the 'tut tut' look and shake your head rather than shout, beep, wave fists etc etc...

Not as cut and dry as that I would imagine. of course there are people who do that. but I *hate* drivers with no road savvy. making incorrect choices puts lives in danger.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Just to clear that up, my dad wasn't a road rager, he'd simply explain "now he shouldn't have done that because..." ;)

    :D

I don't think I suffer from road rage, but I know I react badly to other people's road rage - once I was stuck behind this learner who kept stalling at a traffic light and I knew that if I hopped on the horn (heh heh heh, every time) it would make him/her worse and we wouldn't get anywhere. But yer man behind me decided to entertain us with beeeeeeeeeeeeeep for 2 full minutes.. so I got outa the car went back to him and politely told him that I'd put his head through the windscreen if he didn't stop. He stopped.

I always annoy other people on the road though, in fairness indicators were only invented for emergency situations anyway :v:

I was driving home from town last night around 12 (so no traffic) and this flippin nutter in a taxi speeds up behind me flashing his lights beeping his horn until I got out of his way... and for what? It turned out he ended up in the same place as I was going (Palmerstown) albeit 2 or 3 minutes quicker than me. ::sigh:: I don't see the point of getting mad anymore.

Try driving any national road on a regular basis behind people who consider 40mph an ideal speed. Or on a dark niht when the driver in front decides to leap on the brakes every time a car comes against them.

Of course most people suffer from road rage!

god I soooo need a set of those!!! Yeah some people are afraid to be in a car with me I lose the rag a bit and swear a lot. But its just so frustrating when people do stupid things like:

    - not using indicators esp on roundabouts - what am I psychic??

    - people indicating and then going in the other direction - dyslexic?!

    - People on back roads doing 60kmh in a 100kmh zone - theres only one lane if your gonna drive like that get off the back road and onto teh main road where the traffic means you will have to.

    - people on the motorway who wont get the hell out o fthe fast lane - its called the fast lane for a reason lads the clue is in the name I dont care if your doing 120- get outt athe way.

    - and the worst...people on a normal country road who unlike the very decent truck drivers who pull onto the hard shoulder to let you pass - no these people just crawl along doing 10kmh less than the speed limit at all times. now thats nice if you want to crawl along but at least have the decency to put yourself in the hard shoulder for all of 2 minutes so some of us can get to work on time

    - people who swing erraticaly when you are tryig to pass them out

    - people who tail gate the car in front so if you want to pass out the first crawler you have to pass them both grrrr

    - people who tail gate your own car with their lights on full (just hit the breaks that always gets them to back off!)

ahhhhh rant over. ive a 2.5 hour drive to work every monday mornign and sh*te like this drives me mad. All it tales is one moron to add a half hour to a journey

I do that too, I scared the holy bejesus out of my sister when she was in my car by doing this once. the fcukin jackass was humping the arse off my car. I jam on then accelerate quickly. Haha, aren't taxis the ones usually speeding up bus lanes since they are actually allowed use them:rolleyes: You should have gently taken your foot off the accellerator, and change down gear slowly. Depending on the bus lane he may have made you break the law.

Maybe Ireland could consider increasing the numbers of driving testers so all the drivers who have failed their driving test, haven't passed a test or have never taken a lesson other than a few laps around the local industrial estate with hubby or mum/dad could be removed from the roads - along with annual testing for drivers over 60yrs old.....I'd feel much safer & I'm sure we would see a significant drop in road rage incidents......maybe also triple the insurance for all 1-1.4lt cars with big bore exhausts, blackened out windows, clip on spot lights, etc, etc.....:D

And it is people like you that annoy me , IT IS NOT CALLED A FAST LANE, it is an overtaking lane. Once you complete your over taking move you are to move into the driving lane (left lane)

Again .. it is not called the fast lane.

There is nothing more I enjoy than having someone tailgate me.. I slow down to the absolute minumum speed limit, and just sit there watchin him (usually male) go mad. It's great really, and sometimes I move into a different lane just so that I can stay ahead of him and slow him down more. In fact I don't even mind making myself late just so as I can do this... ah the simple pleasures of life :D . Shouldn't be feckin tailgating inanyways!

Like Siog, I'm not about to knit in and out of traffic just for formalities sake.
Trunks, vans and whatever else hogs up the left lane wreck my head.
If the motorway is clear enough, then you will find me there.

We are most certainly not the only ones that do it either.

i cant stand people who tail gate on a back road where you cannot possibly pull over or move lanes to get out of there way. however connundrum if there are a few lanes or if your driving slowly the person behind you is prob just tail gating you because you wont let them pass. Why not move over onto the hard shoulder and let them pass? They are prob just in a hurry and not happy to drive as slow as you. it is so so frustrating when you are stuck behind someone crawling along and they wont allow you in front to drive on

You're not supposed to do it though and they have introduced this in the new penalty point offences so I'd obey the rules if I were you;) Anyway, it's safer aswell, the person in front of you is far more likely to be aware of you if you appear in their rear view mirror rather than just in their wing mirror/blind spot.

You're not actually supposed to drive in the hard shoulder, at all. In the case of somebody tailgating you, yes it's probably the safest option to avoid the person behind pulling a dangerous manouever. There have been plenty of deaths by big artics driving in the hard shoulder to let the cars pass, they go around a bend and see a car pulled in with a burst tyre and bang!

Don't know where you live, but hard shoulders are not exactly common on a normal country road. Besides if I pay my tax I'm not going to speed up unnecessarily just so you get to work on time. If unlike me, you cannot leave the house in time that's your problem not mine.

Sorry, but to explain more, I tend to drive relatively fast and if I'm in a single lane of traffic and somebody is totally up my arrse then I'm not going to pull over and let them by as a matter of priciple (yes I am pigheaded like that) and if that person continues to annoy me by driving at a fast pace 3-4 feet behind me, then I will slow down to either 100kph or 60kph and make them wait. Fcuk em.

If I'm in the slow lane and someone is up me arrse for no real reason then I will play the game of slowing them down for the craic.

I won't play games if you drive at a safe distance behind me, simple as that.

I hope I never wind up behind you on the road. You would end up wearing my car:p

dont get me wrong I would never deliberately tail gate anyone. I have a long drive and a lot of its on a dual carraigeway or a motorway. On the other roads, if theres someone in front I need to pass I will indicate and pass when appropriate on a straight road. The person in front doesnt need to go onto the hard shoulder as such they can just move in a bit even (esp on a straight road ). what kills me is when someone deliberately makes it hard for you to pass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,563 ✭✭✭connundrum

Heh heh heh, ya play with fire and you're gonna get burned (or driven over) :D

But in all fairness, I'm all up for driving fast and overtaking as many peeps as is necessary to get where I want. BUT I do it in a safe manner, always indicating (ignore my previous comments about indicating, I was obviously messing :v: ), leaving enough space to do the manouvre, and never being an annoying tailgating bollocks. I'd sooner let someone run into the back of me car then give into the annoyingness ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,915 ✭✭✭Siogfinsceal

in fairness i think were in agreement there so. im a v careful driver i wil overtake but only on a clear straight road. like I said id never deliberately tail gate I just hate it when you get those people who crawl.

If you hold up the flow of traffic in a test you fail. This indicates that anyone not capable of driving at a reasonable speed should be off the road...

I went to overtake a 30ish yr old guy the other week & obviously taking umbridge at a woman with a kid in the back over taking him, he put the foot and went from 60k - 90k on a single lane N road, down forcing me to slow down & get behind him or be squished by a lorry.....I hate people like that!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Going the limit isn't holding up the flow of traffic though.

I have to be extra safe and cautious when overtaking as I only drive a 1.1 car, no power!

I was in a car with my cousin driving (he's a looper btw) and the above situation kept happening where a guy in a beemer kept speeding up when we went to overtake. Finally my cousin overtook him and then with care and consideration forced the beemer guy to pull over. He got out and had beemer guy by the throat... road rage at its best.

    - people who tail gate your own car with their lights on full (just hit the breaks that always gets them to back off!)

i put on my fog lights, they can be quite bright at the back if some one is up your arse.

Why not move over onto the hard shoulder and let them pass? They are prob just in a hurry and not happy to drive as slow as you. it is so so frustrating when you are stuck behind someone crawling along and they wont allow you in front to drive on

i agree with you there but by apr 1st you can get penaltly points for driving on the hard shoulder.I'm not a slow driver but i wouldnt be severly exceeding the limit that much, so i dont normally pull into the hard shoulder for people when they are up my arse, trying to pass me out when i am driving at a fast enough pace already.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,563 ✭✭✭connundrum

Sorry I was being sarcastic there, he basically went infront of the guy and jammed the brakes forcing him to stop. And no, I don't condone what he did :o
