One of my mates has google talk built into his gmail account. When he logs on to read his emails he can also send IM's thru the same interface. Handy or what.

But it's not featured in mine for some reason :(
anyone know how to activate that feature?

How do you get to GMail? Do you use a notifier, or through the site front page?

I have google talk on my home PC and gmail notifier on my work machine, it works on both! It is kinda handy though! Not many people use it, so I'm sticking with msn for another while!

They're rolling it out to gmail accounts in batches -- they haven't gotten round to everyone yet, including me.

seems the earlier you got gmail the later you get this function implemented

getting this is dependand on what your display language is, if you set it to english (US) you get all the cool new features first

Have had one or two interesting "conflicts" or something between gmail chat in the web browser and googletalk aswell.

Sometimes, the conversation pops up in the FF window, sometimes in google talk, once it switched between the two mid conversation. Not able to replicate that one yet though. The autosave chat log sorted itself out after a while but initially it just stopped with one of the windows.

Anyone know how the chat works inside the browser? is it JS or what?

    L.

Whatever it is, it's some seriously brilliant programming
I think they use a JavaScript to load up the page, depending on compatibility etc.

nice one lads, i switched to US and bingo!
this feature is wicked. Don't need to worry about closing down my chat's on Google Talk now since they are saved as emails. I love Google :)

You know you could always save your chats autoatically on a txt file on your PC. This worked so when you opened a new chat, it shouwed your previous conv with that person....

can't see the point since there is an inbuilt feature for gmail.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,472 ✭✭✭AdMMM

That feature has only been recently added though so beforehand saving it as .txt file was the only option. Must say that it's an excellent feature although sort of redundant if you have Google Talk installed!

I was brought to a page telling me that Google chat functions had been added directly to gmail (I already had google chat installed separately).

I can turn it on/off by clicking the phone icon on the Gmail icon at the top left of the screen. It's quite handy.

New functions include a small dialog box that appears over any email address you move the mouse over. This gives you the option of a sending a new mail to that address, starting a chat with them etc.

maybe you should give up on the internet altogether?
in fact maybe return to the caves and withdraw yourself from technology full stop?

Try putting these emoticons in Gmail talk:

    : ( | )
    : p
    : D
    X - (
    < 3

    The hilarious:
    ; )

    And my favourite:

    \m/
    ROCK ON!

Give it time and more people will eventually come on board as news spreads about how it is. Gmail has some handy features so Im surprised there isn't a bigger population of users already .

You should leave your language in English (US) and you'll get new features first - the Google talk as mentioned, and also the news-ticker above your inbox have yet to be rolled out internationally. Not sure of anything else yet, as I've just left mine on US!

    Amen to everything you said!
..but it's a pitty Windows Live!/MSN/yahoo, whatever the f#ck you call it, has so many users fo such a dummy service, GAIM has a small user population, yet it works great...
