Ownership certificate

I bought a scooter from a dealer in Dublin last September. They said they were going to post ownership forms to some government department in Shannon. I was to get an ownership/registration certificate in 5-6 weeks.

Turns out the dealer never sent the forms but after several phonecalls they said they'd post again. I accepted this as a simple mistake. This was late November.

Completly forgot about it since until today. Does anyone know what government department I should phone? All I know is it's in Shannon.

I'd rather sort it out myself then contact the dealer again as they let me down on a different issue.

I'm not sure of the correct name of the form. I just know it shows I own the scooter and I'd need it I ever wanted to sell it in the future.

What forms do you have? Anyhoos I'm not sure when it changed but I just got a new bike last month and the registration/vehicle licencing cert is like the one cert now/like a log book. Before you'd get a licencing cert and a reg one separately. The dealer I got the bike from said they'd changed it so you wouldn't be able to dodge tax..All I got with the bike was a form for the tax office - when I taxed the bike they took that and sent the cert to me... Actually they spelt my name wrong and I sent it back but haven't gotten a replacement yet - that was a month ago!

Provided you've made a reasonable attempt to sort this out with the garage, your next step is with the Vehicle Registration place in Shannon. Contacts details are here:
    http://www.oasis.gov.ie/transport/motoring/change_of_ownership.html

Ask them first if they've received the change of ownership form. If not, then see how you would go about claiming the vehicle as yours.

At a guess, I would say that they will ask you to provide the VIN as evidence that you are in possession of the vehicle, and perhaps a statement stamped by the Gardai to indicate that it is indeed your vehicle (i.e. it hasn't been reported stolen). They will probably then make an attempt to contact the last registered owner. If that owner fails to respond or confirms that they've sold the vehicle, they'll issue a new cert.

I've never done this before, but the above process is similar for most other things.
