Lucking for insurance help, I have recently purchased a "1999" Honda NSR 80 on the cheap from a workmate was hoping that it would be a cheap way of getting around and in and out from work but I got a quote from AON today that is way out of my price range.

Here's my insurance criteria so you's in the know can assess my situation and maybe coment on the fairness of my quote or suggest an alternative.

19 year old male, 1st provisional licence, living in Leixlip Co. Kildare with third party insurance non fire and theft on a 1999 Honda NSR 80 €4208

can this be rightconfused.gif, I'm going to try Carole Nash tomorrow.

Sorry -oRnein9-, even if Carole Nash deigns to provide you with a quotation, it's unlikely to be substantially different to the AON quote.

It does seem extremely excessive though. Your best bet unfortunately, is to sell the NSR 80 and buy something a little more insurance friendly (if such a bike exists).

    Good luck..

    Welcome to Irish biking :(

I was trying to get an NSR 125 a few years ago and I was looking about the same, or €7000 for fully comp  Having said that, I was under the impression that the 80cc models were category 2 or 3? Could be that they're loading 2-strokers now

I doubt Carole Nash will quote you.

If you can get rid of the NSR, you might be able to pick up a nice 125cc cruiser like a Virago or something. Either that or pick up a scooter.

yeah the ns80 used to be a nice littlebike to insure (along with the rs50 & the rs125 & nsr125 werent THAT bad either) until some eejit on a rs125 (might have been the rs50) with a provisional caused a big crash a few years ago, dame street i think, that cost the insurance company a load of money

since then all the small fast bikes were bumped up a few brackets
    rs50 & ns 80 from group 2 to group 4
    rs125 & nsr125 from group 4 to group 7

AON arent' really advertising it, but they do a test where you can get up to 35% off your insurance.
If you are on a provisional and pass the test, they give you the same rates as a full licence holder. I know it's probably still too dear, but if you get a lower quote it can help.
If you want any more info I can give the name of a brilliant instructor who'll do the test. It costs €165, and consists of 3 hours - 2 hours training and 1 hour test. It's worth it for the training alone!
