Well, what did people think? Portumna seem like a great outfit with the Canings and Damien Hayes... That Joe Canning is class for his age! The other semi was so tight.. Newtonw were lucky to come out with a win

The way Newtown won on Sunday 'suited them down to the ground'. James Stephens were very poor.

Newtown, IMO, will never be that bad again. Also they will know that if Damien Hayes is held then Portumna are in serious trouble.

Newtown to win the final by approx. 6-7 points. They have to be the favourites, IMO.

i agree that Newtown will be happy enough with just getting the win on sunday. All the attention will now be on Portumna after their win. I dont think though that simply stopping Hayes will be enoug to stop Portumna though. Joe Canning scored 1-6 i think. ( open to correction) I think it will be a very close game and i can see Newtown sneaking it in the end by a point or two.

The other team was Dunloy from Antrim - I got in free that day too. :)

Portumna had a good game and really took it to James Stephens from the start. Stephens themselves were lucky enough to beat UCD this year and last year also.

Joe canning is a good hurler , but he only really started to hurl when stephens moved donnacha coady off him and onto hayes who was hurling well in the opposite corner.

I would be a bit concerned about portumnas full back line - they looked a bit dodgy at times in the game against james stephens

BTW did anybody see the point joe canning scored from a line ball in the galway county final against loughrea?

If portumna do win , it should put galway hurling on a strong basis for the rest of the year, hopefully.

Yeah, I did. it was about 50 yards out from goal and the way he hit it it would have gone over if he was another 10 yards further out.

All of this expectation on him can't be good for him, though.
