    freestyle wrestling, skateboarding or surfing?

Okay so obviously I don't have a clue. But I do have a question, I often hear the term freestyle applied to Karate and I was wondering what it was? I seem to be under the impression that it's a semi-contact flashy pants scenario but maybe you could enlighten me?

I think your right roper , generally freestyle karate does not have any kata and tends to focus on semi contact sparring ,

Freestyle in Karate is semi contact sparring. You get to try out the moves and combos that work for you against an opponent.

Back-leg front kick, jab, reverse punch. Kick brings their attention and guard down while moving you in, face is open for the jab, then the reverse punch can go either face or body, depending on what's more open.

Move in with a couple of attacks (sliding jab, reverse punch for e.g.) then feint a low round kick, flick it up to the head.

To counter a jab or stepping punch: slip to the outside of the punch, push the punching arm down and punch over it.

Point over to the corner of the room, exclaim "look, a three-headed monkey!!", then WHAM!

I suck at sparring though :o

Freestyle just means you can throw whatever technique you like, as opposed to organized sparring (jiyu ippon, gohon kumite, etc)

Edit: get good at sweeping. Nobody ever really expects a proper sweep, and it's very effective if you can do it well. Time a sweep properly as someone is stepping in and you can land them on their ass with one technique.

    say in right stance..

right backfist to face... to distract opponent, then real fast right leg, hook kick to face. (or axe kick).

If oppenent roundhouse kicks, spin off it, with spinning back fist to head. (and a reverse punch can come after backfist too).

Man...I must did out my red stain pants with the strpies down the side and do some of these moves again!!!
