Ok then folks i am having a problem with my monitor but i know that it is not the monitor which is causing it.

The image/display on the monitor is constantly shimmering/vibrating it is a 17inch crt monitor. I have switched the monitor with a 15inch one that i have on an old computer and when switched on it does the same thing. Was goin to buy a new TFT monitor but will this resolve it or does anyone have any idea what could be causing it. My head is wrecked and i get dizzy trying to use me pc......

Thanks for any help in advance....

    Magnets.

Are there any large speakers near the monitor? Or any other source of magnetism?

Try upping the refresh frequency in your Display options.

A large fan nearby caused something similar to me. Refresh rates often reset themselves but it sounds more serious than just the rate.

There are a few nuts working in this place and have their monitors sitting on a desk directly above a 3KVa UPS. The monitor shimmers like crazy, but there's no telling them.

Check for sources of interference, like the guys said. Maybe some cheap speakers, badly sheilded electrical equipment etc. maybe a UPS??

Turn off whatever you can in the vacinity of the monitor and see how it goes. Double check the refresh rates. See how you go with that.

Could be the PC itself. My friend has some crappy old Compaq that outputs a wobbling/shimmering picture - tried using an LCD monitor instead and the same thing happened. Even tried a different graphics card (instead of the onboard one) and the noise was slightly lessened, but still there at higher frequencies.

Check the refresh rate and the monitor specs
You should not be running beyone what the monitor supports as on very old monitors that can fry the electronics. Also you should not be running at 60Hz, try 75Hz / 85Hz after confirming that you monitor can handle at that resolution.

    Turn off fluorescent lights too.

try turning the monitor 90 degrees

ask someone with a laptop to try the monitors to rule out your video card.

go into the BIOS , to see how it looks in a low resolution mode - it should not shimmer there.

Go to safe mode ,set it to 640x480 res, 50 mhz or 60 ,refresh rate , make sure the grahics card is in tight to mobo, is monitor too close to vcr, tv,or radio speakers, you could be picking up interference, try plugging monitor into different esb socket ,esb socket cud be faulty.

It'll either sync or it won't sync at all - only when it's not syncing can damage be caused with old monitors. Anyway he said the same thing happens with 2 different monitors, so the problem is with the PC and/or surrounding environment.
try turning the monitor 90 degrees
That will only affect geometry and maybe colour.
is monitor too close to vcr
A VCR wouldn't make enough EMI to affect a CRT monitor - they usually have shielded cases anyway.
    ..tv...
A TV will have to be less than 1m from the monitor to make any discernable difference.

Very old monitors can go POP (once) if the refresh rate is too high.

not if the interference is electomagnetic - heavy duty power cables and such.

Just to be sure is the 15'' monitor normally ok where it normally sits?
I have the same issue with my 17'' CRT, it is a problem with the shadowmask inside the CRT itself, it has been magnatised from two speakers that where left on directly beside the monitor, could this also be your problem??
To ensure it is not just move the monitor to another location and try it with a different pc/laptop, if it still shimmers it is probably the same issue as mine.

Yeah, and it won't sync to refresh rates that high.

Also, check the moire settings aren't up really high on the monitors - that will cause shimmering too.

some monitrs have degauss , button, or reset to default values in menu.try degauss 1st. try it in any another esb plug, use extension lead. Not socket u are using normally.
