Download Server?

Hi,
I have a website, and I want the people that use it to upload and download stuff off it. It is noting illegal, just stuff we have made. Anyway is it possible to get a free download server for the main page, so as when they go on they can download stuff?

I am using freewebs. But our url is www.eiretrainsim.tk
If there is no way of doing it through freewebs the is there any other possible way?

You'll need to use a paid host that allows you to set up FTP access.

Thanks. Could anyone suggest the cheapest and best on to go for. Is redstarhosting any good? Would I be able to keep my url?

I'm not sure how exactly it works, but you buy DNS(your URL) and your web space separatelly, cause DNS database is universal(I think it gets sent to some main database computer or something) and webspace can be provided by many different companies, and then you use that dns with your webspace or something like that,

If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.

You need to upload the files and make a very simple page with links to download the files.

I'd sugest you google it, you'll need to do a small bit of reading.

what sort of traffic level are we talking here GB's or MB's??? you could always just set up an ftp server on your pc or spare pc if you have one.
Might not be a good idea if your talking about alot of data though especially if your isp cap's downloads

Yeah my isp does have a cap on downloads. It would probably be about 2GB's a month or so. Put people have to upload files to it as well. It is sort of like a p2p, but a private one for uploading and downloadin files. Any suggestions?

You could get everyone to run some kind of Darknet. Like a private kazaa/limewire hub, where you could only see each other's files.

you could use soulseek - its a p2p app but you can restrict access to both uplaods and downloads.

Is there an cheap option to pay someone to host the files for me. Like redstarthosting, €3 a month for 500mb. Can they host my files for me?
