Wireless network problem

Having a problem setting up a wireless router.

Its a dell wireless 2350 router. Came with a disk which walks you through getting it set up but that didn't work. It was set up before but I had a friend do it manually. Can't get a hold of him at the mo.

After I connect everything up the LED's for 'wireless' and 'Internet' flicker. Are they supposed to be constantly on?

    Any help would be appreciated.

i had a problem gettin my network to work. had everything hooked up right cable wise but had major problems getting my laptop to connect to the router.

in the end, i did a system restore to 2months ago and it worked! somewhere along the line i must have tweaked a setting or two. worth a shot anyway.

    Right, here we go again.

I'm having a problem configuring a wireless router.

The router is a Dell wireless 2350 broadband router.
The DSL modem I use is a Netopia, Cayman 3300 Series

    My broadband provider is Eircom.

Right now the two of them are connected this way: I have a cat 5 cable connecting the modem and the router through the ethernet port on the modem and the Internet port on the router. The router is then connected to the computer using another ethernet cable.

I have access to the Internet but no wireless capability because I reset the router and havn't changed any settings yet.

When I do change the settings as instructed in the manual I lose my Internet connection as well as having no wireless.

I use a web based configuration tool by Dell. I'm told to go into the basic settings and then in the 'internet connection settings'. I was given a username and password by eircom for my broadband connection so according to dell I use PPPoE.
So I set it as follows.

Also, I use windows XP. When I go into Network Connections there are 2 sections, "Internet gateway" & "LAN or High-Speed Internet".
Now I don't remember always having the Internet Gateway part but its there now and its connected.

In the "LAN or High-Speed Internet" part there is Local Area Connection and 1394 Connection, both are connected.
When I go into the Status of the Local Area Connection there are details such as the IP address, subnet mask etc. but in the 1394 connection there are none.

I have gone through the manual and the troubleshooting documentation but it hasn't been much help.

Anymore info needed, let me know.

    Cheers for any help.

    WOOWWOWOOW

You can access the internet from the PC that's plugged in, just not wireless?

If so, you're on the wrong page of the router config, 'cos that's all setup correctly.

From the wireless device (laptop, I assume), can you see any wireless networks? Are any from the Dell? Can you connect to it?

Can you post a screenshot of "Wireless Settings" from the router?

I have access to the internet right now on the PC that has the router and modem connected to it. But I havn't configured the router yet. My laptop does see a network but I'm pretty sure its not mine.

Here is a screen shot of the device status of the router now.

And here is a screen shot of it after I make the changes that the manual tells me to.

Sorry about that irl. I knew I had an old thread about this so posted here. Didn't realise it wasn't in the wireless forum.

    Right so.....everything is sorted.

The wireless device my laptop was picking up was actually my router. I assumed it wasn't for various reasons.

As I said I reset the router and had a connection to the internet, it appears the wireless is automatically working as well.

So, I made zero changes after setting up the hardware and everything works, there ya go, couldn't be easier. And imagine, ive been at this for over 4 hours....

I assume that you haven't setup security either. This is a must. If you have to, go with WEP but if you have the option go with WPA.

Mightn't be a bad idea to enable MAC filtering also.

If you are unsure on how to proceed, we can help.

Thanks man. I know how how to get all that sorted though so its grand.

Plus, the router has an added security feature. The range and throughput is pretty bad. :)

I wish I went with a netgear or Belkin.
