What are New Zealand/OZ like for jobs?

Is it easy to find a job and what is the cost of living like?

Cost of living is much lower than here in Ireland. I found there was alot of jobs going in the major cities in both countries, nothing great paying or anything like that but perfect for justa year over there or whatever.

Rent is very reasonable in the bigger areas (Auckland, Brisbane for me) - That's in houses where you rent a room. I found that to be the best value personally.

I was over there 2004/05 so it can't have changed too much. I'm sure there are loads of people on here who have been there though so there'll be more up-to-date information.

plenty work in australia and to a lesser extent in nz. i live in brisbane but have lived in sydney and nz too. you'll make poorish money on somehting like a bar job but if you have a trade/profession you can make good money in australia the money in new zealand is very poor.

get yourself an abn (australian business number) you'll charge your employer your hously rate plus 10%gst and supposedly do your own tax return at the end of the year:D

i'm hear a few years and all i'll say is i've yet to pay one cent in tax in this country and the hourly rate is good even when converted to euro.

    Hi k974,

Is it hard to get jobs in a trade/profession when you are limited to working 3 months in any place due to the working holiday visa. I am thinking of going although not to boost my career but if I can enjoy travelling and doin a bit of work that I am qulaified and enjoy...then why not:)

that 3 month thing isnt really strictly followed at all unless you work for one of the big companies like the equivalent of esb eircom etc where everything is by the book. i was with the one company for 10 months got sponsored off them, i do know of people let go after the 3 months but i know far and away more people working for compaines for long as they like.

most jobs go through agencies its hard to get in direct with a company at first, however once your in put it to them that you'll get an abn and they can cut out the agency.

if you dont plan on staying here for good or anything milk the abn.
