Finding installed RAM information?

Is there any way to find out the exact details of the type of RAM installed in a laptop without having to open the case and physically remove the RAM?

I've gone through everything in the WinXP Control Panel but all it tells me is that I have 512MB installed, that's it.

Basically what I want to know is what type of 1GB stick to purchase from crucial.
    DDR2 PC2-3200, CL=3, DDR2-400
    DDR2 PC2-4200, CL=4, DDR2-533
    DDR2 PC2-5300, CL=5, DDR2-667
If my processor is 1.73PM (FSB533) then will the second module do for me? Is that how it works, you match the fsb speed?

    yop...
http://www.crucial.com/uk/index.asp -> bottom of Nav bar on the left..It should help identify appropriate RAM and their prices are usually decent.

correction Belarc Advisor doesn't seem to.

    CPUZ ftw.
BTW You are going to have to open the slot/cover to install the extra ram anyway so why not take a quick look if all else fails. You will then see the physical size of it and how many slots are free.

    Fair point.
And to re-iterate open the slot/cover - in most cases, it doesn't involve opening the whole/much of the casing - it's usually just a slot.
I think the next stop is to the manufacturer's website for instructions..
