Hi Paul, theres are a few FMA schools about the place in Dublin. There is one in Molesworth Place (train Thurs night and Saturday mornings) in Warriors Escrima under Guro Krishna Godhania one of Europes foremost FMA instructors and European rep for Sayoc Kali. The two instructors are Shane O'Neill and one Scuttery (who has been very absent from this forum but maybe try PMing him for exact details). These guys are pretty serious about what they do, so if you're interested you need to be committed.....in more ways than one! Mick O'Leary is also teaching Escrima in his Wing Tsun school, not sure what style but once again try giving him a PM.

Don't know much about what they do in Lesson St (think they do Doces Pares) or the Filipino guy who trains in Bray (only that hes an ex-Lighting Scientific practisioner). But basically you're pretty spoiled for choice.

FMA? Filipino Martial arts? I thought someone had come up with a new term for mma - functional martial arts. lolz.

Paddy, will that be in Johns new place or elsewhere? (I presume you're involved with it)if so, just a quick crude question about payment for classes, would it be pay as u go or direct debit type thing? & what cost?!
    Cheers man!

    Hi Paul
We teach Silat, as part of the training we teach, stick, knife, staff, sword etc..and have a very similar background in empty hands grappling and striking as the FMA. Our website is www.silateurope.com and if you like what you see on it and would like to give silat a go, send me a email or you can call me.

    Hi Paul,

Nice to hear from you and welcome to the forum.

I teach Escrima from 12.30-2.pm on Saturday afternoons in the Coolmine Sports and Leisure Centre on the Snugsborough Road Extension in Blanchardstown. Escrima classes will begin shortly (March) in the Thomas Street area of Dublin City Centre and they currently also take place in Molesworth Hall at the back of St. Annes Church, Dawson Street every second Thursday from 8.30-10.30pm. We are holding a seminar on Saturday the 11th of March in Molesworth Hall from 2.30-6.30pm which will cost 25 euros and which you (or anyone else) is welcome to attend. Our chief instructor is Bill Newman who was one of the first teachers of Escrima in Europe. Try us out, you might like what we have to offer. :)

As Dave Joyce said there are also other Eskrima classes in Molesworth Hall on Thursdays and Saturday by a friend of mine, Shane O'Neill. For contact details you can send me a private message.

There are also other Escrima classes in the Bray and Donnybrook area run by a Filippino master as well as other classes in the Martial Arts Academy in Magennis Place.

If you have any queries you can email me at michael.oleary@iewto.org or call me on 086-3989345.

    Regards,

    Michael O'Leary

    Hi Paul25,

I train with Shane & John in Warriors Eskrima in Molesworth Hall, I'd highly recommend them, they really know what they're talking about. The 2 guys are really good instructors & it's a nice small friendly group.

Apart from Warriors Eskrima the guys are also member of the Sayoc Kali Training group & Atizenza Kali training group & have trained in Rapid Arnis too.

We train on Thurdsay night : 6.45 - 8.15 weapon only class & on Saturday : 12.00 - 2.15 half the class is weapon based & the other half is empty hand Pangamut*

*Pangamut (empty hand) techniques are broken into three areas - these are Sikaran (kicking/kneeing), Panantukan (punching-with the use of elbows), Dumog (standing grappling).
Here's the Warriors Eskrima website if you want more info.

I also train in Bridgstone Muay Thai, which is also a good club well suited for complete beginners to experienced fighters !!
    Here's there website:

If you want anymore feedback or info let me know & I'll try to help.
