Pretty much as the title says, I have some old pro lenses off a Canon AE1, will they work with a 300D? I really can't find anything on google about this, although I don't know what I'm looking for either.

    Many thanks,

    Robbie

    hey robbie

300D's only take EF lenses (or newer EF-s lenses)

the ae-1 doesn't use ef lenses so no

If it helps, there's some extra info on options for using Canon FD-mount lenses with a DSLR (be it Canon or, even, other brands) at:
    http://luminous-landscape.com/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t9156.html
For the technicalities, and links to the later EF-S:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_EF_lens_mount#Versatility

In the 1st page above you'll notice the links to a type of adapter:
    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=89910&is=REG&addedTroughType=search
    http://www.kievcamera.com/product.php?ID=198
...but as they have to incorporate an optical correction (as well as the basics of the physical mating), there is going to be some [possibly large] loss of image quality. I think a version with no correction would limit the lens to a macro focussing range(like using a bellows/tube).

I guess you'd just have to test them to see if you'd be happy with the resultant quality v's cost -- perhaps you can find sample photos/reviews of their use with good lenses.

Of course, maybe someone here has tried these brands/models of adapter before, for 35mm-film (or digital) EOS Canons?

They're some kind of option anyway, for what it's worth :)

Thanks for the replies, guys. The adapter thing looks interesting, but I don't think I'd bother with the testing of the lenses with it. I was just being optimistic that they might slot straight on to the 300D! Ah well. I guess I'll stick with the good old reliable AE1 for now.

    Cheers again,

    Rob
