My cousin is considering an apprenticeship when he finishes his leaving. He wants to either be a carpenter or a bricklayer. I did a bit of checking for him(because he has no net access at the moment) but I can't find their pay rates anywhere.
Anyone know what the rates are?

The FAS rate which is the highest rate for a first year carpentry apprentice is €219 take home but this only a guideline as some builders may pay as low as €180. Blocklayers may be higher. My husband is a carpenter and he says carpentry has more variety to the job.

    Depends on the Trade.

Sparkys get the most afaik and chippes about the lowest.

What kind of trade is he interested in?

Well it depends really on what's on offer and from what I've seen on the FAS website that's not a whole lot he's thinking carpenter or bricklayer because he thinks there's more of a chance at getting an apprenticeship there. He would also probably go for an apprenticeship as an electrician or painter. He really doesn't know what he wants to be honest.

The two 1st year apprentices with the company I work for, start at €6. Somewhere between €8 and €9 for the 2nd year Ones doing cabinet making, the other carpentry & joinery.

When I started as a sparky in 1993 we got the amazing sum of IR£64.98.
