    Hey,

I live in Tramore, Co. Waterford and several of the Smart Telecom phone boxes were advertising the service and said that Smart Telecom was "available in your area now". On checking their website, it wasnt.

    So I emailed Customer Support asking what the story was and here was the responce I got;

    Hi Kevin
    >
    > Thank you for your email. The posters displayed on the Smart Payphones
    > are nationwide. Hopefully Smart Broadband will be in Tramore shortly.
    >
    > Kind Regards,
    > <SNIPPED>

In fairness, its completley false advertising if you have advertisements
in a persons town saying "Smart Broadband is now available in your area".
Its completely wrong and misleading. By right you should have waitied
before until it was available before advertising in the towns that it is
"available" when it clearly, is not.

I'm supprised offical complaints have not been made to the appropriate
authoritys about this, as Smart are effectevely wasting peoples time!

As far as I know there is a protracted legal squabble going on being Eircom and all their competitors who wish to use their infrastructure to provide an alternative internet and phone service. Eircom are delaying giving access to their lines because they know everyone who takes a look at the packages on offer will immediately switch away from them.

Smart and the rest of the boys meanwhile are shouting 'monopoly' at Eircom and are trying to break in. I'm pretty sure smart planned on being nationwide with their roll out at this stage, otherwise they wouldn't have had all the ads on tv - they just didn't see a court battle with eircom scuppering their plans.

Consequently Smart, who should have been seen as a white knight offering an improved package on the 'developing country' effort Eircom give us are now seeing their marketing efforts backfire as they can't deliver what they claimed.

They committed to their marketing before roll out was cleared and are left with the proverbial egg on faces.

This advertisement has only arrived in the last few weeks.

Eircom Vs. Smart has been going on a lot longer.

Doesnt make it right. Espicaly there ad saying "No Catch" when there is a catch -- you gotta get a new line to get Smart.

Well the posters on the Phone-Boxes in Tramore and Waterford have been removed...

One of my friends reported seeing someone take photos, I guess an offical complaint was made to the Advertising Authority of Ireland? Or else they took my advice...

Ah the joys of a good monopoly :(
