Sky Charges for Problems

I am thinking of getting sky digital installed and have heard that if there is any problem they will charge you 108 euro to come out and have a look?

Is this correct? How can they charge this if their service is faulty. Surely the ESb etc would not get away with doing this?

    Hi,

For the first year of your contract, Sky will cover any faults with the digibox. I'm not sure about the dish, whether that's a full year too. After that, you are on your own and the 108 is Sky's standard call-out charge to fix whatever is wrong, including replacing the digibox. You can take out insurance but I think that's overpriced.

I know it sounds crazy, but the logic is that you own the equipment after 12 months, so you can terminate Sky and just watch FTA (free-to-air).

It is a concern, and I'm surprised that Chous don't play it up more, but I guess the reality is that faults are pretty rare. If you do have a fault, a common practice for those with a sufficiently tough attitude is to call Sky and threaten to cancel unless the call-out is free... and the rule is you have to go down to the wire... and they often but not always relent on the charge. I would not have the ability to do this. After I still want my Sky!

    Ix.

I'm on my third Sky+ box in 24 months. Maybe I'm the exception to the rule but...

Given how much a call-out charge for a plumber etc is these days 108 isn't excessive. No plumber would guarantee to come out and fix *anything* for a flat fee which is pretty much (up to a point!) what Sky are saying. It could be anything from the box being kaput to the dish having moved in the wind or a broken LNB.

If you think it's excessive then there's nothing that you can't do yourself, including buying a 2nd hand box or getting up a ladder and realigning the dish.
