Setanta sub in the UK

Hi folks, I hope this doesn't break the forum rules; apologies in advance to the Mods.

I have a friend with a Setanta subscription in the UK, who wants to organize an Irish subscription as there is some programming available to Irish viewers which is not available to UK subscribers. Assuming Setanta have solid reasons for setting up their channels in the manner that they have, it seems unlikely that he will be able to purchase a card in the RoI. Has anyone personal experience of this?

Assuming he did buy an Irish subscription through an address here, would the card work in his UK box? I suspect it might prove prohibitively expensive as he would need to maintain his UK sub also to view his normal channel package.

    Thanks in advance

If he buys a subscription here EU law allows him to take it where he likes.

The program provider under their T&C can terminate any sub.

The card belongs always to Sky/NDS

Yes the card will be fine in any Digibox, but there is a question about phone line, some say it is best the phone line is not connected.

Setanta may have contractural obligations to NOT provide program material outside different areas, they meet those contractural agreements by sell ing subscriptions based on postal address. Those contracts may not apply to a viewer.

All of this applies to a private viewer. A club, Pub, Office, Shop or ANY public performance of the programs requires a different subscription which may not be used elsewhere. Additional permits and licences not relating to Satellite TV, but TV in a public place also apply.

He could have an entirely Irish package and cancel the UK sky. The UK sky card will still work for C4 and Five (not on an Irish card at all) and change the box to UK EPG.

Swap cards while on Interactive on Sky News.
