A photographer friend of mine, who I met in Prague last year, has set up an interesting website/project I thought you guys might like to check out.

    http://www.prague360.com/

He uses a big fish-eye lense to create almost-seamless 360-degree quicktime panoramas. The results are well worth a look.

The site uses a google-maps type interface. Click on the various markers to see the panorama of that area.

You can also have a look inside some bars/clubs/hotels/etc. This one, for instence, was my local for the year I lived there.

Don't mean to be pimping (don't think it's making him money anyway) but I think you'll agree it's an interesting and well executed idea.

Take a look also at www.ireland360.com where there are some very good 360 degree shots. "Fun In The Shower" is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face. I'd love to have a go at some of these 360 shots. Does anyone here know what's involved?

Taking photo's in a circle and then using software to bind them together. I know Canon cameras have software with them, and I used a Photo Stitch program a while back you could do it in.

Although that's only getting the photo together, not putting it in a quicktime format where you can scroll around.

    Pretty nice shots.

How do you put the finished panorama in Quicktime format?

To make 360 panos like these first you need a good pano head, kaidan or manfrotto sell, they are expensive...I have the kaidan qpu2 which is very good. The best software to get is realviz stitcher, this give excellent results just stitching a few photos or making a 360 quiktime movie. I find realviz not very user friendly but after a while you get used to it and the results are excellent. You can also make your own pano head there are tutorials on the web, the main thing with a pano head is to have no parallax in the shot, this is achieved by placing the lens center point over the pivot point of the tripod.
