So recently I've been putting alot of thought into getting my first tattoo and I'm fairly sure I'm gonna get a bass clef on my right wrist. Now I'm told by some that this will be an extremely sore area to get a tattoo on, is this true?

If you really want it, then don't let pain become a factor. If your afraid of it, then your gonna think about it more and then it'll hurt more.
It's not gonna kill you, you'll live to tell the tale.
    enjoy it!

Yes Tattoo's on your wrist do hurt. As it is a boney area. However it doesn't take long. So its more a question of pain threshold. If you cant take any pain. Then your going to be sore. If you can, it wont bother you...

Funny thing to note though, if your getting it done on the inside of your wrist. See how your hand jitters from relexes. That kept me amused while I was getting mine done. (so I'm easiely amused)

    Quotes charter ***again***

    Rule 3.
No more 'is it sore?' or 'where should I get pierced/tattooed?' threads.
Quote Etho--"I've closed 2 threads in as many days because frankly i'm getting very bored with all these silly questions."

Does it hurt? Yes, of course it hurts. Getting pierced with a sharp needle, or tattooed - where you have many sharp needled being jabbed into your skin - hurts, of course it hurts. But pain is a subjective thing. What is agony for one person, is another persons pleasure.

Personally when I got my wrist done I barely felt it.
Now the inside of my upper arm was a totally different story.

I'd prefer to think that its trying to find the right meaningful tattoo, or just a general dislike of tattoos that keeps people from just gettin random tattoos all over the place. And the pain isn't what you remember, unless you're a retard, a yakuza, or the bearer of a tramp stamp, you should be able to see your tattoo rather easily. Also, on the off chance, you got a meaningful tattoo, it should be pretty hard to forget it.

As for tattoos being painful? Thats a complete lie, probably cooked up by some conservative parents to deter their kids or some crap. My tattoos are on each forearm, on the inside, just below the elbow joint, which is a pretty tender fleshy area, and to be honest, as soon as I can think of another meaningful tattoo to get I'll be getting it done soon as possible, cause it feels fsckin awesome.

Surely there is some other way to express this idea without being unthinkingly offensive?

Thank you, And do you believe him when he said it's not painful, even the tattoo artists i know up here in dublin wouldnt claim that it's not painful

It is painfull - you have needless going in and out of you hundreds of times and leaving ink in there! - but not so painfull that it would make you not get it. It also depends where on your body you get it, the artist, the ink colour or black so go in easier, the needles - outline or shading......

Don't worry about the pain, just take a deep breath and before you know it you'll have a tattoo!

I have both arms tattooed and am hopefully working towards a full body suit eventually, I am not the right person to ask in this regard.
It hurts, but in fairness I find that after about 15 minutes of being cut that my endorphins give me a lovely warm feeling in my head akin to smoking a spliff, so actually I really like it.

what he said ^^^ I have 2 tattoos one on my shoulder blade which didn't hurt and one on my ankle just above the bone which did hurt for about 5mins and then I got distracted by a magazine and forgot about it.

I got on on my arm two weeks ago and it was big enough. It went a bit around to the underside of your bicep. I'd be lying if I said it wasn't painful but its bearable and as blub2k4 said after 15 minutes the endorphins kick in and you relax.
