One for the dentists.... (Children)

My son is seven and has lost four top teeth and two lower teeth.

The two lower teeth are growing nicely.

My problem is the top teeth ... he has lost the four middle teeth but only the two centre teeth are growing back with big gaps each side. There is no sign of the next two teeth coming and there doesn't seem to be any room for the either....

Is this normal in a child? Will the other two teeth appear some day and push the gap shut? How long should it take for these two teeth to appear? When he lost the other four teeth the new teeth were already growing.

He is due a visit to the dentist with the school before the summer but I'd like to know now if this problem is common???

I had the same problem :( Probably not common but certainly not rare. (Sorry - I'm not a dentist)

Did your other teeth grow, how long did it take? Or did they never show???

Yes bottom perfect. On top the teeth on each side of the front two incisors(?) never appeared. The other top teeth all appeared but spread out to fill the gap. As a child I don't remember being bothered about it but my mother used to be concerned. I became more conscious of it as a teenager but it doesn't particularly bother me now.

I now have braces because of it but my case was a tad extream, he should be grand though cause even when I was younger my siblings teeth did the same. Fortunately they didn't have to get braces...lucky bees:D

The two upper lateral incisors (The teeth each side of the big middle ones) are absent a lot more than people realise. Having said that, he is only seven so they may still be erupting. Only way to be sure is to get him assessed by your dentist.
