What are the main differences between playing ring games and tournaments?

I only really do tournaments, whenever i've managed to get money in my account i usually spend most of it on tournaments, and seem to do alright a fair bit of the time.

i don't want to completely ignore ring games. but when i decide to wander into a cash game, whatever i take in is gone in no time (It's usually not much).

Does anyone have any advice for playing ring games as opposed to tournaments?

they are entirely different games, Id recommed that beginners (not sure if that is applicable) stick to one the other.

In tourneys, bad players gamble with you, deal you a bad beat, and then you are out.

In ring games, bad players gamble with you, deal you a bad beat, and then you buy in again, and take it all back the next time.

In tourneys - the blinds are typically worth a lot in relation to your stack (often there are several players who have between 5 and 25 blinds (perhaps even everybody is in this range)).
In cash games - you will normally find players with between 25 and several hundred Big Blinds (in a normal dublin cash game ... the 50 holdem table will have a few players who buy in for 50, a few who buy-in for 150-200 and a few who have 500+) .

The differences in the value of hands, when you are playing for 100BBs, Vs 15BBs is monumental.
Also, the blinds dont increase, so you can be much much much much more patient than in a tournament.

Basically, they are totally different animals.
