If you could live anywhere in Dublin where would it be?

I'm probably gonna move out in the coming months and don't know where to move:confused:

On one hand i could move into town and have all the benefits of being in town, shops, bars etc all within walking distance. Cons - expensive, not likely to get anything amazing but a single room..

On the other hand i could live in the 'suburbs', in a nice QUIET estate, have a double room with en suit and a BBQ in the back garden etc etc, all for cheaper than being in town...

    Where would you live?

By the way, i live in a **** heap in Tallaght.

Baggot Street Bridge. Actually, I wouldn't live in Dublin if you paid me.

Cabinteely seems to not be too pricy when compared with other areas around it. Also Sandyford is quite reasonable. They both have good access to all amenities as well. Direct bus/Luas links to town too. Also so close to Blackrock, Stillorgan etc. so you could get a taxi home after a night out and not pay a fortune. Those kinds of areas are what I'm considering when I move back. Since I'll be travelling to UCD and back everyday they will be an ideal location as well. Shankill is pretty reasonable too.

    Rathgar, Terenue or maybe Rathmines.

All close to the city center, loads of busses to and from town. Quiet and safe.

I lived in the city centre for about 10 years in rented accomodation and while its great to be close to everything , the skangers that hang around the neighbourhood and the sirens at night are not exactly peaceful and quiet.

Have lived in Rathgar now for about three years and if I won the lotto would certainly buy a house here!!

I'm living in Rathgar right now and can't wait to get back into the City Centre. I don't like getting busses, so it's a 35-55 minute walk into the city centre depending on how fast you're walking and where you're going

Ranelagh/Rathmines nicest area in Dublin imo. Great village, great pubs, is a suburb but is walking distance to town and on the luas line. Plan on moving there myself...pay about €400 a month for a crappy room, but in dead handy and really nice area! :)

yeah that's my budget too.. I was thinking of the whole Rathmines/Terenure/Kimmage etc area...

Kimmage is too far out, but Rathmins/Ranelagh are less than a 30 minute walk into town

Well I dont but the question was "If you COULD live anywhere in Dublin" I will never live down that neck of the woods unless I win the loto tbh  :D

I like where I live now tbh (between Rathmines and Harolds Cross) but Im only renting.. I would never be able to afford to buy around here... Ranelagh's lovely too though..

Dun Laoghaire, down near the harbour. Its the only place in Dublin I can say I like, or I'd like to live in one of those posh apartments in the IFSC.

Probably somewhere like Ranelagh or Rathmines, but oddly enough, I wouldn't mind living in Dundrum because it'd be so handy for getting to college for me.

It boils down to this..where are the most expensive houses in dublin and does anyone rent there ?

Peope pay for houses in a certain area beacuse its a nice place to live.
Dalkey, Killiney and Howth are incredibly expensive for the simple reason - they are nice places to live.

If you can rent in these areas for a reasonable price (read <€1000/pm) then live it up, otherwise live like the rest.

Quite happy where I'm living now. When I eventually move out of the parents house though I'd like to live somewhere like Rathmines/ Ranelagh for the first few years at least 'cause they're great areas full of young people, pubs, restaurants etc. and are convenient to town.
Probably Ranelagh though as its a bit nicer than Rathmines.

If money was no object... Penthouse in the IFSC :)

I lived in Rathmines for a year, didn't like it, not so bad once you get there, but getting there I used to get abuse from skangers in certain areas.
Been living in in Drumcondra nearly 2 years now, never had an issue with skangers and its pretty close to cc, loads of buses, only annoyance is the GAA, feckin Croke park and its resulting crowds.

If money was no option then you'd be over in that Alisbury(spelling) road area where all the houses are 40 million. I lived in Ranelagh on marlborough road just after wongs chinese restaurant. I found it grand. Dead safe!. Thats the most important thing for me. Rathmines is a nice spot too, they are noticable more scumbags around there though.

Got a friend with a penthouse in Temple Bar.

All I have to do is get me in his will and knock him off.

Ahh Rathmines, I lived there for 3 years and never had any problems with anyone. Moved out to Balbriggan and the place is full of scumbags (no offense to the non-scumbags!). Myself and the missus will be moving back in late April and we're gonna be looking for Portabello/Rathmines area. I love The 'Mines, if I could afford it I'd buy a place there. It has a great buzz, loads of shops and pubs and just about everything else you could need. Oh and a great atmosphere.

Ranelagh > Rathmines and everywhere else in Dublin; except for Foxrock/Leopardstown/Donnybrook perhaps.

God D6 is very popular these days, what happened to Dalkey/Killiney/Malahide etc?

  • Lived in Rathmines for 2 years, found it grand but there is a lack of amenities up the top end, further away from town. It can be literally 25 minutes to do food shopping which I find a bit annoying, living in a city. Then again it's very quiet which is nice. There are a few scumbags around there, had a little trouble last year, nothing serious. If I could live there again I'd choose the end nearer town, way more shops etc and only a 15 minute walk to the centre.

Ranelagh seems lovely, really nice atmosphere and quite studenty at the same time. The awful traffic problems put me off before, but now the Luas is there I'd definitely like to live there.

Remember, the main student accom. for TCD is near Rathmines, so studenty indeed.

I intend to live in Ranelagh when I can afford it, its such a nice place, and tis a perfect to live.

Yah I agree that Ranelagh has a studenty feel to it. Its nice and compact. Everything is within 5 minutes, wongs, chartbusters, centra, nightclub, luas. Grand and handy. I once met a chinese bird in Ranelagh that was so friggin hot... God... I cant describe it. :D

List of things to look for in an area: hot girls.

    Madness. lol.

I'm happy here in Killester. Just around the corner from the train station, a bus stop, shops. Not too far from anything, really.

Gonna get that anywhere in the CC though if you think about it.

Yeah but you're a bit isolated in the park, plus its a known rentboy hang out.
I'd prefer not to live near that.

Ah forgot that, sex in the bushes beside your house, not the most pleasant.
