    Hey all

i just won a seat to the above tournament tonight (for a cheap $10!) and was wondering if anyone had any advice or any other important tactical nous for the tourney, considering it's a 4000+ player tourney i know it will need a bit of luck but has anyone had any specific experiences in the tourney?

    all advice needed, trust me!

    cheers

u need a lot of luck not a beat.
take ur 50/50 chances early in the tourny.
be aggresive if you build a stack but dont over do it.
dont look for confrontations unless you have a big hand but try to steal more.
if u get lucky enough to have a big stack ,reraise raisers preflop with any hand you feel is not dominated.
i havent played this and dont know the structur so cant be more specific sorry.
    best of luck

I'd say take it easy and just wait for your hands...let others do the gambling and just play it patiently

    1. Make sure your internet connection is 100%. My Eircom land line went down when I was comfortably in the last 200 (field about 2000) and I lost 30 minutes.

    2. Don't take too many risks early on. Some players will be on a do or die mission. Let them lose their chips to someone else. Keep your ammunition for when you have a hand.

    3. Keep an eye on the tournament lobby i.e the screen that shows the number of players, the chip-leaders, and the number of players left. You must be aware of where you are in the tourney at all times.

    4. Don't get dragged into too much chatting to the other players or watching observer comments in the chat box. Rows can develop. And if a big stack is on your table there will be a lot of observer comment. Switch to the "info" box instead and click update regularly to see where you stand.

    5. Switch off the TV, music, and don't browse the internet, check e-mails, as you play. Try to make sure that no-one will interrupt you.

    6. Go to the loo before you start as you don't want to sit out too many hands.

    7. Eat before the game starts (30 mins to 60 mins before) to avoid hunger pangs. But beware .....
I saw a program on TV last week that says eating protein keeps you alert (meat, chicken, fish) but eating carbohydrate (bread, pasta, chips) makes you sleepy. So perhaps some grilled chicken would be good.

    8. Don't panic if you are low stacked. Don't throw away your chips. Wait for a hand.

Have to disagree strongly with this advice. I'd much rather fold a coinflip and
play poker than say call an all-in first hand with QQ vs AK.

Mine would be to play tight in the first 2-3 levels, playing only category 1 hands and to avoid all-in situations without the stone cold nuts

Keep an eye out for people limping with less than great hands and raise them once the blinds big enough to be worth anything.

I've played this tourny a fair bit and I too disagree with the advice to take your 50/50's early. However you shouldn't play overly tight early on in this tournament because there's a whole lot of dead money at the beginning so try to identify the donks who are adopting the ultra aggressive approach and try to get in for cheap against them. Try to enjoy it, it's a ridiculous tourny really and you will have to win an unreasonable amount of coinflips and give some bad beats to finish near the final table. Don't assume most of the players are really good because a *lot* of them really aren't. Best of luck with it, I've known some atrocious players who've finished in the top 3 in it :)

thanks very much for all the input, i didn't think it would get as detailed as what to eat before the tourney!!

from what i can understand by looking at the details of the tourney it does indeed seem to be a bit of a crapshoot, i will take my chances and think it is the sort of game that is worth playing every week, hopefully leading up to that big payout!

    thanks again for the advice

    cheers

I've played this a few times and I think the best strategy is to sit tight. Don't take 50 50s, the structure is slow enough and there are definitely enough donkeys to pay you off in better situations. I'll be playing there as Daithio, and Bohsman will be too. I'll keep an eye out for you, do you have the same username on stars as here?

    hey mate,

i'm gone played HORRIBLY! so bad u wouldn't even believe, twice had my kings beaten, once when i flopped trips and the other to A2, really really bad play and then at the end, my trip 2's went down to trip 8's

no complaints tho, completely my fault, they all could have been pushed off their hands at many points during the hand but i played them so badly i have only myself to blame!

i see ur struggling a bit too, will try again next week!

    cheers
