The Dublin Kern Warriors and Living History Re-enactment Group are seeking new members. We operate in the periods between 1000ad and 1500ad as Irish and we offer membership to male and female from the age of 14 upwards. We “train” every Sunday in a school hall in Blanchardstown where teach members how to use - spear, pole arm, kern axe, long and short sword, one and two handed axe, dagger, javelin and long bow archery, as well as hand to hand fighting. We have a grading system and an emphasis on safe use of our mock weapons and appropriate period and costume according to your rank.

Our group is known in Irish as Cumann Duchás Beo na h-Eireann and in English as The Living History Group of Ireland so you don’t have to be a fighter in be involved. Our range of activities cover - Martial Arts, Gaelic Culture, Irish History, Traditional Crafts, Costuming, Social Outings, Battle Re-enactment, Living History Camping and having a good time.

I'm curious as to how historically accurate are your training techniques. Is the aim here for a good performance for the viewer or does it match the training and techniques that would have been employed at that time period. It would be interesting for example to see how similar quarterstaff techniques would be to Bojutsu for example.

    Thank you for your questions.
Our training techniques are as historically accurate as posssible with an emphasis on integrating techniques from 14th and 15th century illustrations. Our aim is to be 100% accurate in fighting, application / techniques and fighting spirit and style from medieval times. We also offer to give a good performance for the viewer creating a sense of realism within a safe environment. We use many mock metal weapons and each has its style of use, the quarter staff technique we use is very similar to Bojutsu. We also teach that the spear or kern axe can also be used in the style of the quarter staff.
I hope the above answers all your quality questions
    Regards
    Jon
