I want to teach English to immigrants in my house to earn extra money. I was thinking teaching three students three times per week might bring in enough money to allow me to quit my part-time job so I can concentrate on doing my research.

My question - what's the best way to reach these elusive foreigners? I just need nine of them. Surely Dublin can provide me with that?

In case anyone thinks I'm a scam artist, by the way, I am serious about this. My teacher-cum-educational-psychologist girlfriend will help me develop a programme, and I've been in university myself for five years by now, so I'm sure I'll do an excellent job.

If anyone wants to sign up, it's E15 per session. E13 each if you bring a friend!

notice boards in supermarkets - lidl or aldi might be your best bet, or the city centre ones. try advertising in the polish newspaper, or in the polish section of the evening herald. there's also, for the want of a better word, foreign supermarkets that you could advertise in.
hand out flyers to anyone not speaking english.

oh and you'll have to be willing to travel to wherevers convenient for them, your house mightn't be accessible to everyone remember. if you're not willing to travel you're cutting out a huge percentage of potential business.

Thanks. I put up a notice in Superquinn (Balinteer) but had no joy. I realise that supermarket is full of affluent, middle-aged Irish people though.

I'll try the cheaper shops so. I didn't even realise the Herald had a Polish section.

rediguana, from previous experience, when people were looking about information relating to teaching languages to foreign students, they got much better info in the languages section of boards. Im sure there are plenty of people that post in that area that have done what you want to do.

If you want me to move your thread there, let me know. If you arent having much luck in the next day or two, I'll move it there.
