New Unlocks

We have a small heads up announcement regarding the next couple of weeks in BF2. Things are rolling along for the patch and the booster pack, and as expected you'll likely see them later this month. The patch will come first, and be well in place in time for the first Booster. That said, we want to inform you of a small oddity you may see in-game while we get the various aspects coordinated.

Short explanation: At some point in the next couple of weeks, you will see an empty in-game window pop-up, just like you received an award. This is just GameSpy detecting now that when the patch comes out you will get another weapon unlock. You should only ever see it once or twice, depending on how high your rank and how many unlocks you’ll have coming. Once the patch is out, your weapon unlock will be available in the BFHQ tab and you can make your choice.

Long Explanation: The next patch is going to give many players another weapon unlock at their current rank. In order to get the best testing results we are having GameSpy configure up the weapon unlocks now on their end. This allows us to test them in a true environment, which is rather effective. The side effect of this is that when this is first in place you are likely to see an empty placeholder message. It will look just like you received an award and will appear once for each unlock you’ve earned. This message would be telling you that you have received another weapon unlock, but we haven't patched the weapons in yet. So you will see this placeholder message which is harmless. When the patch is in place though, the stats system will think you already got your notification in- game. So you will want to hit the BFHQ tab and unlock your free weapon.

This means that when you log in and play you may be offered 2 new unlocks but as the patch isn't out yet you won't be able to use the new unlocks (AT/sniper).

You can though use your 2 new unlock choices on other weapons right now or just wait for the patch and use them then.

**** i used got the final two unlocks last night...Does that mean i've used em up for the patch?

I honestly don't know and no one really seems to know for sure but the *feeling* is that yes, when the patch comes out you won't be able to unlock the 2 new weapons as you have used yours up last night.

They aren't your final unlocks though...

i use the g36-e, f2000 and scar-l

btw you know they are squashing the ranks again so you will more than likely get another unlock if you have the points. i only need 13k more points or so to get mine now so id say i have 2 more unlocks with the new patch.

I use the DAO-12 every second of my BF2 life and the Scar-l when I'm off destroying assets.

I was just wondering do they only give these new bonus unlocks to certain ranks. I'm at 6400 points and haven't gotten bonus unlock, so jsut wondering if anyone was on the same points as me and did.

Why the DAO-12? It's underpowered in comparison to the pump action / single shot shotguns. The US & Chinese shotguns will kill in one shot at close-medium range...

It should be at each time you increase in rank... or at least it was for me.
I haven't received weapon unlocks for anything else /shrug/

Yea that's the regular unlock. I'm talking about the bonus free unlocks....

plenderj, because then I'd have to be an engineer and that tends to result in being kicked from the server for teamkilling due to loonies driving over my mines.

I never liked the single shot guns. Ok for 1-on-1 but if I'm coming up behind 3 players I prefer to knife 1 and then take the 2 others out with the DAO quickly as opposed to having to dance a little while waiting for the single-shot to reload.
