Considering a build

Hey all, I'm considering putting together a system over the next couple of months and have been trying to suss out how much I'll need to spend and what I can get for my money. I'd be looking to spend around €1000 but I'm willing to spread the cost and save longer if needs be.

I've never built a PC from scratch so i had a look on komplett to see what I could get for my money.

I'm not a huge gamer but would like to have the option to play some decent games, mostly use my current comp for surfing, music and videos so I was thinking of going for Windows MediaCentre.

Would this system be good value for money? would it be relatively future proof? would all the parts even be compatible?

    Any advice etc. greatly appreciated

IT looks fine 2 me, u have 1000meg ram ,thats a great cpu.amd, very fast ,i,m not an expert on videocards, it looks ok,mobo has pci-x graphics slot,it might be worth looking at the benchmarks of that card in far cry ,doom3 or half life2 in 1024 resolution, it looks very good value to me.Or look at a site that reviews grahics cards ,pc components ,like tomshardware.com

Yeah, looks good to me aswell
I actually bought the same Mobo Bundle there the other day, its working very well :):);)
Quite fast, even compared to my P4 on the other PC.

Only thing id say is if your gonna splash out on a whole new system, throw an extra 60 or 70 on your GFX card and get a 6800GT or GS, they well outperform the 6600. :);)

And, im sure you could find an edition of Windows media somewhere else...a LOT cheaper if you get me. There are cracks out there.

Good luck with building it though, oh......and get 2 more fans or so for cooling.

Thanks for the input, I think I just needed some reassurance on my choices. I might try and buy the parts gradually and leave the graphics card till last in the hope that prices will come down before I have to buy one.

If you're gonna do that you'd might as well just save up all your money and buy the whole PC in one go at the last possible moment.

Think about it, you get the most PC for your money that way.

It's just so hard to wait though, and so hard to save:p

I think I probably will try to buy together, if even just to test everything together before any warranties run out

IF you are on budget ,get komplett.ie package as above, just put in 64meg graphics card, get it on boards secondhand, then when you have 150plus saved up , get a fast pci-x card, even a old geoforce4 will play dvds ,older games ,ANY GAME up to half life2,u cud build a fast pc for 400euro, minus graphics card, IF u can buld a whole pc, then theres ,no problem installing a new card, when u have the money. Theres no point, waiting 6months to get a pc, just to save 60euro.YOU can save money,by using your old monitor and mouse/keyboard.

You cant put an old geforce 4600 into a PCI-Express slot

Also, its PCI-E not PCI-X. PCI-X is for servers, it's nothing got to do with PCI-Express. Nothing at all.
