C++: dynamic_cast<> et al

    So does anyone regularly use static_cast<>, dynamic_cast<>, const_cast<> or reinterpret_cast<>? It's one of the few areas of C++ that's still fuzzy for me, and the explanations I've read aren't very satisfactory. When is the C-style (type)variable cast not good enough? Is it more correct to use the above C++-style casts instead? And what are the performance implications?
