I just saw this on the sky news website ---

An Egyptian passenger ferry carrying more than 1,400 people has sunk in the Red Sea.

The ship disappeared off the radar and bodies have been spotted in the sea where it went missing.

See the link for the story

    I hope theyre ok.

Here's hoping, I think there are Egyptian and British ships racing to the site of the sinking now. my thoughts are with those people.

Apparantly its sister ship the Salam-95, crashed last October after crashing into a Commercial tanker. But everyone was rescued that time. Two ferries from the same company crashing within a few months of one another seems very dodgy.

this unfortunately wins the most dead today prize (see going postal thread)

although the number rescued is slowly climbing, surprised to see so little footage of it.

I wonder what happened to it.

It took Egyptian authorities 10 hours to mount a search and rescue operation. I know the weather was bad, but that is a ludicrously long period of time. Serious questions will be asked.:(

Would they not have life boats ready? Have leonardo di caprio and kate winslet taught us nothing!

a combination of bad weather and overcrowding the mention of pilgrims from mecca being on the boat just shouts overcrowding

1,400 is hardly overcrowded for the size of the ship, I would have thought.

However, this is the second ship the shipping line have lost in the space of 5 months.....that sounds like something wrong somewhere.
