My mates PC was knackered from various installations. I had the files backed up separately. Then I did the files transfer wizard and just made files about the settings which exported to a folder which I saved on a removable drive.
I formatted and installed XP again, then went to the file wizard to transfer the old ones. I cannot remember the exact details of the error but it just said there was no information in the folder I was pointing to.

The folder contains 2 files, one small one and another about 19mb. Is there something I am missing. Could it be that there were settings for programs on the old installation that are not on the reformatted one?

dont use wizards to backup files when you know what your at..you should have backed up what you needed using Windows explorer and manually moved the files back yourself..

What are the names of the two files?

I will find out the file names later. One is definitely a .dat file.
I have all the pics and word docs it was the internet settings that were lost. I wasnt sure if you could just copy a file and drop it in a new PC with all the ISP phone numbers and passwords etc.
I did copy a .mbx (or something) file a few years back and got back emails on another PC that crashed. There were only a few emails on this newer pc and the address book.
I did a full transfer a year ago of files and settings on a corrupt PC and it worked very well.
