    Hi

Anyone used one of these yet? Where is the best place to buy them?

Am I right in saying that if purchased from the US, they are duty free because its a Digital Camera?

Have a D70 and would like to upgrade.

I am almost 100% sure that if you buy a Digital Camera from the US and ship it over via FedEx etc. that they are exempt.

Lenses are not exempt over a certain value.

Any customs experts around? How would a body and lens package be evaluated by Customs?

It worked out at around 2500euro in total, alot cheaper than buying in ireland, its secondhand with only over 2000 shutter actuations, which is nothing on a camera like this, as they are good upto 200,000 shutter actuations. The camera is in mint condition.

    hey all

curious why everyone is so keen to upgrade the the D200? Sure the extra resolution would be nice, 5 shots per second would be cool, the semi-pro (?) body means I could shoot in the desert or rainforest..:)

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have the D200, but the D70 does everything I need it too and that I will upgrade when it becomes outdated or just dies.

Not blamming anyones desire to upgrade, just wondering what people see as the real advantages of the D200?

    thanks

How do ye find out how many shutter actuations an SLR camara has had? is there anyway of finding out?

Can you let me know when you are selling your D70's ;)

Progen, I bought the software from this site, http://www.soens.de/ 10euro, its only works with the canon 1d series...if you check out the canon forums there are ways of telling the shutter counts on the 10d, 20d etc. This software is is accurate though, have'nt tried the other methods.

the d70 tells you by it's default naming convention - ie, I take a picture, the D70 default is to name it DSC12265.nef - that's the 12,265th photo taken by the camera. AFAIK this can not be reset for obvious reasons.

Opanda Exif gives the total for Nikons(and shows the ISO value which seems to be hidden from Windows)

Well you can switch it off. :) At least on the D50 it's an option. I'm fairly sure it was off by default too. I switched it on. You've about 12k more than me taken on your camera - niice.

I'm not 100% sure it can be turned off in the D70. I know you don't have to use the default counter type naming conventoin, but it still keeps track of number of actuations, so when you turn it back on, it will give you the correct number........i think

Aah... That's cool. I do remember reading that something stored the actuations even if the numbering was off (but it was deep in exif or needed some special software).
