What exactly is happening? Give step by step details.

In the meantime, try this -

Start -> Run -> Type hypertrm -> OK
It'll ask something about being the default, just say no
    Type blah press ok
    Type 123 press ok
    Press dial. Immediately press cancel.
    You have a blank screen.
    Type ATE1 hit return
    Does it say OK?
Type ATDT [your mobile number] press return

    What happens?

Put in model no, ie convexant 4300 drivers modem download, type this into google.com , or look at windrivers .com , you shud use winxp drivers, but try win2000 drivers if theres no winxp drivers, if u look on your win os ,in i386/drivers/ modem , try drivershq, driverguide.com, driversone.com, or nodevice.com .if u have any os disk, even win95, browse to drivers/modem folder to u,ll see files listed under company or model names, usually inf files, or you cud just copy ALL .inf ,and .sys files off old pc hardrive, u may need winrar or sum unzip prog to examine the cab files, go to control panel on pc.devicemanager, click, modem propertys, reinstall drivers, then browse to cd or floppy or directory which contains, the inf,sys files for your modem, you can unzip cab files using winrar prog.and view cabs ,install winrar and click on cabs, maybe cab 12 or latercab file, winzip may also unzip cabs,i,m not sure. try to get drivers to match your windows os, eg xp or whatever u have installed.

That was said already and leave it up to the mods to sort. No need for it to
    be repeated.

Like it was said already. The guy is in trouble and is probably frustrated and
worried and posted in the wrong section.

Have you put the right details for your ISP (Eircom, BT, whatever) into the dial-up settings in windows? Also, you may need to get the latest windows xp drivers for the particular modem.

The easiest way of transferring files between 2 PCs - assuming they both have network cards (or on-board ones) - is with a crossover cable. You can buy these easily in any computer shop (PC World or Dixons or whatever). If they don't have network cards you could do it by a null modem connection (using a serial cable between the pcs - also easy enough to find in any good shops).

You can browse win xp cdrom, to i386/ drivers/ drivers/modem ,click on modem in device manager/ update drivers ,then browse win xp cd to the folder above.

easiest way I find is to take the HD out of old PC and stick it in new PC and then just drag and drop.

You can get 256meg usb drive, for 25euro, or burn folders to a cdr disk, or use direct cable connnection, or use CROSSOVER ,cable ethernet to ethernet, or set up infra red wireless connnection, or put files on a 3/half inch floppy.Floppys are big enough for, sys and .inf windows drivers files.

FFS! You'd be there for years if you used floppies. Most modern PCs don't have floppy drives anyway.

hi had the new pc out last nite trying to get the modem working, but still no joy at all.its a bloody nightmare when you try a few things and get no results.
and all this hassle is for bloody dial up internet access lol.

and yes all the dial up settings and numbers are correct,it just sounds as if it is going to work for the first 3 or 4 seconds then i just get a beep beep noise.

.....then you may hit what took me an age to find & fix. Some phone lines have call waiting set & some (older?) models can have a real problem with this. (It acts like a disconnect a few seconds after connecting). On the Hyperterm (above) there is a command you can give your modem to ignore the call waiting blip. e.g. of command set http://members.tripod.com/michaelgellis/modem.html

I'm posting - because I also changed modems and the problem remained! Only sorry I can't remember the command that worked.

try swapping phone cable to pc ,cud be faulty cable, or else plug in direct to main phone socket, plug phone into extension socket to MAKE SURE you have a dial tone there>
