Accountancy apprenticeship interview any advice

I e-mailed a ream of my CV's to accountancy firms and I just received now an invitation to have a "chat" with one of the firms managers. Basically due to working all my life in a family business this is my first interview at the tender age of 20.

I've looked over the advice on interviews on the boards which was good but if anyone would have any advice, specifically about accountancy interviews and the general questions they ask, I'd appreciate it.

I don't want to screw this up.

Vince I wouldn't get too bogged down in specifics if I were you. I would imagine that the interview will be fundamentally to see what kind of personality and character you have, and to see if you are good spirited and possess a good work ethic.

So smile, laugh, listen, speak well and smile again.
If you can get on with the manager, he'll offer you the apprenticeship...

    What he said!!!!

At entry level positions that you're going for, they basically want to see that you're of sound mind, can communicate well and of course understand what the job entails.

If you would like me to give you some advice on types of firms etc out there you can PM me and I'll more than glad to help as I would've liked somebody to do it for me when I started out.

I agree with the above posters but I would also say do some research and know your stuff. Be ready for the usual "why accountacy", "why our firm" questions. Read the companies website, news article etc. to get info on the company and learn about the job youll be doing and the accountancy profession in general(perhaps youve already done this).

Dont be worried too much about technical Q's like "generally when assets go down what happens to cash" because the way employers see it youll get all the training youll need on the job so their much more interested in learning about your personality. Theres a good chance that it will be an informal chat to get to know you but believe me its a hell of a lot better to be overprepared than underprepared so do all the research you can. Good luck and let us know how you got on.
