    Hi Folks
One of the girls in work gave me her daughters iPod to fix. It's a 20gb 4th gen model.

When it turns on, the apple logo appears for about 5 seconds and then a message to contact apple support.

Has anyone any ideas about what could be wrong and how to fix the iPod?

I was thinking of reformatting the iPod and reinstalling the most recent firmware.

    Any ideas appreciated... G23

Happened to mine, after trying what it suggested on the website, I just had to send it back and they replaced it.
My error was "cannot find hard drive" or something, so all the music was gone and it wouldn't switch on after the apple logo and the error.

All I can suggest is send it back and get them to fix/replace it...

Thanks for the advice BlueWolf, but the daughter is going to Japan for 2 months next week and would like to bring the iPod... the best solution would be a quick fix by me if possible.

    Anyone any other ideas?

Thanks blueWolf... thats the message on the iPod too!!! I'll have a good look at the site later this evening.

Has anyone else had this problem, and if so what were the solution(s)??

Dont know if its too late but if you go to http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

That has the ipod update software. I brought my nano back from the same error message with it.

Please note: you are reseting (effectively reformatting) the ipod so you _will_ lose all data on it.
