Considering moving to the states...

Hey all, I'm in dublin and my girlfriend lives works (part time) and studies (part time) in the states. she has planned to move her and settle down after her graduation at the end of the year, but it the course of discussion, the idea of me moving to her came up, and it appeals to me. I have never travelled or worked abroad and dont have much keeping me in Ireland so i'm doing a little fact finding. I know very little about obtaining visas/green cards as moving to the states has never been an option until now, so here are my questions:

    1. If i am offered a job in the states (while i'm still here) does that make obtaining a visa easier? (a friend of my gf is keeping an eye out for jobs that would suit me, as i'm not about to head over with no prospects and unprepared)

    2. How do i go about correctly, and legally (you'll see why in a moment) telling the 'ol US gov that i want to live and work in their country?

    3. in the course of the last year, i was refused entry into the US as some of the party i was travelling with got a bit rattled by US immigration (a major misunderstanding, we were not doing anything illegal, we thought we could go under the visa waiver, but were misinformed, they werent impressed and refused us entry) I now have to apply for a tourist visa from the embassy and be approved before i can even attempt to vist the states again...should i forget about ever being more than a tourist in the US because of this permanent black mark on my passport?

    4. my gf and i plan to marry eventually, will that make any of this any easier....should she just move here first and then we'll attempt a move back when we're married?

...or with the current political climate, and american paranoia/xenophobia, should i even bother at all?

    Thanks in advance.
