The stupid thing about it is that you can only see a bit of it. Its not completely see through.

And who would pay that money for a 150gb?

I would, maybe not the see through one but Rapters Kick ass for speed, your are paying for the privilage of seeing the inner workings, beats me how your going to see them even if you had a See through case the way harddrives are stored it would be a waste!

why would you need to see anything else thats the most exciting part of the hd

Id think it would be better if you could see the side working then you will see everything, as most PC's with SIDE windows then could see the bits, kinda pointless but I think ill just stick with my regular rapters!

Another idea stolen from your friendly hobbiest case modders who never patented it because it was created in the spirit of shared knowledge, large company spends a relatively insignificant amount of money to put plexi in the case before assembly, smooths the design and then markets it to the slack-jawed hoardes who neither know nor care what lead to the shiney box infront of them.

    *sigh*

    It's not the first "See-Through!!OMG!!" hard-drive.
Example - not the first-ever to my knowledge

I think it's expensive 'cos of what it is (raptor) not that it has a little clear bit.

To be honest I was looking at this yesterday on the WD site, didn't know it was a brand new.

Can't see much point in it myself, maybe some ppl with clear cases would like it.

You look at the monitor of a PC, the MONITOR, otherwise while admiring your see-thru HD, you probably won't be paying attention to what you're clicking on screen and accidentally hit
"Format HD, Electricute User and Detonate Processor?"
    | OK | | CANCEL |

    :p

Seen the same idea prob 2 years ago (maybe more) and a how to to get the window on as well.

Inexpensive mod (unless you mess up and kill the drive) and the charging an arm and a leg

I agree seems pretty pointless. Paying to see the internal workings? It'll be in the computer case, in a drive bay.

Very, very few people have actually completed this mod successfully or with a modern hard disk. The only working ones (I consider "working" to be still working a year later) I can recall offhand are off older, smaller hard drives (around 4gb).

It's very dangerous and difficult to do, but can look good very when done correctly and displayed in a nicely modded case.

That's what I would have thought. Modern hard drives are massively sensitive to contamination.
