a friend of mine is trying to use this to connect two computers to irish broadband. i'm fairly sure his setup is just two computers in ethernet ports and the ibb connection in a third one. doesn't look like it'll work that way to me. would he need a router too? or should he just get rid of the switch and get a router with a wan port?

i'm not to up on the ibb setup

I don't have it either, but unless I'm mistaken you need a router, you can't share IBB with a switch.

Yeah you need a router as Ibb has a static ip

so what's the cheapest way to get both pcs online? i'm hoping there's something cheap that could plug into the switch to let it work rather than having to go out and buy a whole new 4 port broadband router

Buy a nice cheap router with an ethernet WAN port.

most BB routers have a 4P switch built-in already anyway. If you buy a simple WAN port & LAN port router, you will need a switch anyway.

Either get a WAN/LAN router, post the switch for sale on boards and get a few quid for it. Make sure it does DHCP and NAT.

Or buy a SMC barricade 4P for 35 euro on komplett.ie
