As was discussed in this thread here, with so many boardsters planning to be in Vegas while the WSOP is on, it would be cost effective for us to group together and rent a large house near the strip. We could live in the lap of luxury for about $30-$35 per night per person.

If you're interested, post your name and your intended travel dates below. These don't have to be copper-fastened, I'd just like to get an idea of how many people would be interested and how long they would be going for. It may turn out that we don't need as many beds, or it may turn out that we need more.

I'm planning on going from about the 15th of July until the end of the main event. I think that's the 10th of August, so I plan on leaving on the 11th. Is this a bit longer than everyone else has planned? If so I can just stay in a hotel for the first week or so. This place looks pretty good too.

I'll be heading over Mid July to mid August. The only issue might be beds. Some of them say 4 bedroom and they sleep 12 people... Unless they have 3 beds per room we could be in trouble!!

I reckon we get searching for a house with a load of bedrooms for about $30 - $40 per night per person.

What is an acceptable distance from the strip?

If everyone could post links to apartments/houses here we can then have a poll on which house to choose!

My dates will be mid-to-late July to mid-August. Any apartment with a big pool and internet access is good with me.

Hoping to go mid july - mid august too.

I hope to be there. I just haven't taken a look at the dates yet but it sounds like a trip for someone without a real job. :)

I was just looking to head over anytime, i'm super flexible.
Just whenevers the cheapest/suits most ppl.

Yeh I think they are mainly just double beds from the fotos, but they look big rooms etc. so I'd have no bother sleeping in a sleeping bag etc. :)

My plan is to go over on either the 18th or the 23rd depending on wheither or not I can get that extra week off, and staying untill end of the main event.

If theres any space going at them times Id be game, would be great craic.

  • Subscribers Posts: 32,859 ✭✭✭✭5starpool

I'd love to head ideally for 2 1/2 - 3 weeks, but my non-poker work life might dictate that I cannot. If I do go it will be around July 24th to Aug 11th.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,886 ✭✭✭Marq

It would be a good idea for us to look into whether these apartments have ample safe-deposit facilities for 12-14 holidaying poker-players.

It would be handy alright but not essential- most of the casinos have safe-deposit boxes free of charge.

Wouldnt that be a sweet score for an oportunistic junkie

If we manage to get around 20 people we should stay here.
It would work out less than $30 per night AND IT HAS A MINI GOLF COURSE!!!

Will be there for at least 2 weeks. In the heat a pool is practically essential. Noone would have survived a round of minigolf last year, it was bad enough crossing the road in 45 degrees :)

I'm deffinately going for at least 2 weeks if not 3 I just haven't decided on the exact dates. A mate was planning on going for a week so it's hard for me to pin it down. From a financial point of view this is a great idea but from a social point of view my snoring is bound to make enemies.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 300 ✭✭Guinnessman

Yea definitely interested as well. When is the last 2 weeks of the WSOP?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,886 ✭✭✭Marq

So far it looks like we will need at least a twelve-person apartment from 28th July - 11th August...

I'm very interested in getting the largest pool possible at our price-point. I'd like to be able to swim proper lengths, even with 25 of us chilling there to escape the heat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,288 ✭✭✭✭ntlbell

I'm aiming for much the same late jul to mid august, nothing concrete yet tho.

With a crazy golf course, swimming pool, 12 beds, close to the strip & less than $40 a night each!

Gold Coast is a worrying 100% match....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,886 ✭✭✭Marq

Ok we can drop the Crazy-golf course.
And i think this way we'll come in at $30 dollars a night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,141 ✭✭✭ocallagh

If we could guarantee to get 12 people (minimum..), this place nearly fits

    http://www.findvacationrentals.com/4289

It is 3750 per week. Divided by 12 people it works out at about $300 per week per person or about $43 per night per person. If we could get one or two more people we might be on budget. It has a large pool, sleeps 19!! and is 5 minutes from the strip. Unfortunately this means taxis - 5 minutes in a car translates as about 4 miles, and you won't be walking anywhere in Vegas in the summer.

Most people will be over for 28th July - 11th August.. so we should definitely book somewhere for those 2 weeks.

There are a few smaller places for about $30 per person per night but they don't have a decent pool.. and we'd be crammed. They are also a few miles out from the strip.

I saw a few 2/3 bedroom houses near the stratosphere etc.. but they only sleep 6 or 7, and again - if travelling to the Rio it would be a taxi.

If we want a large (decent) house for less than $40 per night we will be stuck a few miles from the strip.

The ony other option is renting a few condo's. There are small 2 bedroom condos which sleep 4-6 people. They work out at 1250 per week and are within walking distance to the strip. We'd be sharing the pool with a hotel..

As I said before there is myself and 3 or 4 friends going 24th July - 5th August. We would definitely be interested in renting out something like this. Our budget is around $30 - $40 per night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 601 ✭✭✭willis

Any chance of making this a sticky and putting definite dates as to when people must add whether they can go and when. i could be up 4 this but would need a week to decide and dont want to have to scroll through 5 pages to find the thread again. just an idea and fair play marq for trying to get something like this going

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,696 ✭✭✭Hectorjelly

Im definitely going and would love to not have to stay in a hotel.

More than likely going mid july to mid august.

I would be willing to create a web page where folks could indicate their interest with the dates they plan to be there so we could get a good picture of the situation. Let me know.

If I can win a seat online I'll be there, from a day or two before the main event starts until the end.

It's a big "if" though, especially if my play in the Final Freezeout on PPP on Saturday night is anything to go by. I played the occasion & the prize instead of the cards. :(

Thank you to those boardsters who stopped by the table to wish me luck.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,124 ✭✭✭NickyOD

Wow, If we got 20 or so boardsters in one of those houses it would be the greatest trip ever.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,600 ✭✭✭roryc

    Ever!!!!!!

Yes, this sounds good. I dont want to jump in where others are organising stuff (I'm aware that I can be as subtle as a bus in a toilet sometimes) but if we need a sub forum to organise this I can create on here or on Antesup for wider oganisation and chatter about the WSOP. It looks like last years incredible amount of interest was the tip of the iceberg, I'm very glad I've bought an entire server and beefed up our lines because with Mike and I there, we're going to try and do as much as possible and this house idea is an absolute dream for us.

Let me know where I can help and of course, I'm there for at least 2 weeks as I said. Start booking and taking cash would be my advice, cash talks.

    O.k. I got up a quick page here - http://www.talking-poker.com/vegas.aspx

Enter your dates and boards nickname and the list will build up as a good picture of where the dates match up best.
I'm provisionally going for the 26th July to the 9th August. If I make the final table of the WSOP main event I'll stay longer :)

Just to point out guys when these places say sleep 20 etc they usually count sofas, double beds, bunk beds etc. Just make sure you check exactly what beds they have.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 9,035 Mod ✭✭✭✭mewso

Dave managed to demonstrate that the page is not foolproof :) so I have made the date selection more user friendly. I'll take a sofa easy enough. Not something that bothers me. These non-single types are awful soft :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,886 ✭✭✭Marq

It won't let me change the default dates. When I do, it shows up as the default dates. I'm actually planning to be there 24/07 - 11/08.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,141 ✭✭✭ocallagh

me too..sry! I tried to put in 20/07 - 12/08 but it came up as the default dates...

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 9,035 Mod ✭✭✭✭mewso

Sorry folks that calendar thingy is very fancy but try to set a default date and it sticks with it. anway I think the dates are correct now. Let me know if not.

  • Business & Finance Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 32,387 Mod ✭✭✭✭DeVore

Didnt take for me at all Muso. Put the text into the box (via the calendars) but it put me in for no days.

I'll be there about 20th to the about the 13th.

The error may well lie somewhere between the seat and the keyboard.

Just out of interest has anyone booked their flights yet. The longer you leave it the more expensive its gona get and flights to Vegas in the summer aint cheap.
