guaranteed to win the euromillions

the euromillions is 175 million this week. there's a 1 in 76 million chance of winning so if you buy 76 million tickets at 2 euro a line it would cost you 152 million, i.e. you'd be guaranteed to win 23 million. you'd also get all the five number combos and all the four.

the only problem would be if someone else got the numbers too at which point you'd be fooked.

my idea is to go to the bank and ask for a loan of 153 million. if i win i pay it back with the profits and if i lose i use the extra million to disappear in mexico.

    of course the bank would:
A: tell me to get out
    B: steal my idea

only problem I see with your plan is you would have to go through each of the 76 million tickets to be sure you had every possible combination of numbers that could be drawn. You could not just do 76 million quick picks!!
    Good luck with that!

its fairly straightforward. you just have to buy them sequentially. all you have to do is be able to count

you a thick have you ever heard of probability??????? find it out and then work it out the odds are definatle less favourable than that idiotic statment you made

and then find a shop that will be able to print 76,000,000 tickets in a week.

The Prize is capped at 150m. If no one wins it its devided among the winners of the next lines next week

The national lottery seem to disagree, they have last friday's jackpot at €152,882,223, and it can roll over till the 10th feb before it's divided.

...and assuming it takes 10 seconds to fill out each panel (making sure it's also correct) you'll need upwards of 22 years to fill them all out and a lorryload of biros :v:

Also what if there's 22 winners?
    Bit f*cked, innit...

did your mother never teach you manners? do you talk to people like that in real life or is it only when they can't punch you in the face for being an ignorant prick?

any scientific calculator can work out the odds in about 30 seconds. the only information you need is how many numbers to pick, how many numbers to choose from and whether or not numbers can be repeated (which for the lotto, of course they can't)

so before you go and say that the odds are definitely* less favourable, maybe you should get a calculator out and work it out for yourself.

i realise it would never happen. it was a bit of light hearted fun but i suppose zabbo and vannistelrooy10 just like to insult people. the only reasons it would never happen are:

A: as wertz said it would be impossible to get the tickets printed in the time

B: the lottery organisers wouldn't pay out once they realised what was done

C: no bank would loan me the money

D: if someone else picks the numbers too the whole plan goes pear shaped.

*it's spelled definitely by the way. In fact, kudos on your grammar in that entire post. 7 mistakes in 29 words. Your mother must be so proud.

Right, I'll get 500,000 bic pens, you go to Central Bank, and we can meet at that newsagents near stephens green at 10.30.

This did actually happen in ireland where a group of people bought literally hundreds of thousands of tickets. The lotto had said something about matching 4 gets at least £50 gauranteed, and they made a truckload of cash. As a result the number of numbers were increased from 36 - 42 or something. I remember my maths teacher telling me all about it.

I could be working this out wrong (50!/45!) but I think it's actually a 1 in 254,251,200 chance of winning, which means over €500 million to cover all combinations.

but isn't it a permuation and not a combination? i'm fairly sure your way assumes the numbers can be repeated, which would mean much more possibilites than if they can't be. i'm not sure and i only just completed a probability and statistics course :D

B: the lottery organisers wouldn't pay out once they realised what was done

As far as I know, this did happen before in Ireland and they paid out. They then increased the amount of numbers in the draw.
Same group as the people who won that Evening Herald house competition a few months ago.

There is no limit to the amount that can be won
because the bigger the number of entries the bigger
    the Jackpot
So there seems to be no ceiling on the amount you can win.

okay what if everyone off boards were to take a few combinations, and then we share the winnings with who took part, that way its no huge loss either way?

    ...

Intresting and you would make more money again on the other matches you would get too.

Of course the main issue is printing all tickets within a week. All lotto machines have safeguards in them to stop what you are suggesting. If you try to print too many the machine shuts down.

I'll make this simple and I could perhaps say this to a few other individuals involved in idiotic posting as well but yours was last: post crap like that again and I'll fix it so you can't post anything for a period of time of my choosing. The correct response to this post of mine is not to respond to me. The other guy can take note of this too.
