    Hi there
Does anyone commute from Slane to Dublin (north)? I am thinking of moving to the area but have a feeling the N2 is very slow. Does anyone have any time estimates?
Are there any proposals for upgrades of the N2?
    Any info would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

The Ashbourne by pass is supposed to be finished this Autumn... this will begin northside of Ashbourne and continue all the way to the M50 roundabout....

Only slow part on the N2 at the mo is Ashbourne itself and that stupid roundabout just south of Ashbourne that was opened properly a couple of weeks ago... gives right of way to traffic coming from/going to Swords/Ratoath rd instead of the main N2... this has caused 3 - 4 mile tailbacks especially in the evenings approaching ashbourne..

however this shouldnt really be a problem when new road opens...

and the M1 isn't far from Slane, 'bout 7 miles or so. That should be worth a go, though I don't know how they compare on time (and there would be a toll if you join the motorway north of the Boyne).

I go from Ashbourne in the mornings to just inside the M50. On a good day you're talking 20 mins, on a bad day (like today with the ice 'n all) maybe 35-40 mins. Slane is less than 10 miles from Ashbourne and afaik is ok in the mornings.

According to http://www.n2finglasashbourne.ie/ the new racetrack is opening ahead of schedule in May, good news for all.

I pass Slane to Ashbourne in the mornings,it all really depends on what time you leave at, take this morning for example, left Slane at 8.15am, pass a terrano that ended up on its side (did anyone see that) then hit a bad tailback from the new Statoil into Ashbourne,9.05 when I got in. If you left Slane 7.30-8 the journey would only take 25 odd minutes.

I got the bus from Dublin to Monaghan at 07:45 today (lots of fog, some ice). There was a tailback from the M50 to the fork for Duleek - thats 29km. I imagine the bypass will help a lot, but thats baaaad.

From Collon, it would make more sense to use the M1, even paying the toll. From Slane, I think it would depend on what side of the bridge you are on.

We are doing some work near the port tunnel (M1 South) at the moment. They do sometimes close this section off which does leave a nasty tailback, I do suppose it a 50/50 take a chance on which route would be best depending where you are stopping. (maybe you could cut across somewhere around St Marg's)

(Icy conditions just doesnt not slow down some, came across car in enfield, it left the road and ended up at the bottom of a 15ft bank)

A close pal of mine has made the move to Slane , and works in East Point Business Park, and the commute is approx one hour give or take, in both directions. The thought of this and actual practise of doing it, day in day out, are quite different....it basically means that you are totally wiped out every evening when you get 'home'...aching neck and shoulders from the driving (though i suppose with a kick ass merc or something like this it could be allayed a bit...but still), you never want to even think about going into Dublin at the weekends etc as you just cant face the drive yet again...

Now, the above is really only relevant to someone who does not have family or backround in the slane area (ie still have lots of ties socially to dublin city, and few if any locally to where one lives). If as i suspect, you are being driven out of the dublin city area by price, and are being tempted by gorgeous accomodation and lower prices further out, i really do think that you should take the full impact of this daily 2 hours commute on your life into serious consideration....

Of course, i could have it all wrong, and in this case, accept my apologies for wittering on so long. best of luck with whatever decision you come to!
