Cant connect to wireless network

Using a laptop running Windows 2000 and a wireless B card, I cant acces the wireless network in my house.

I changed the router settins to make it secure. Not that you need to enter a key to connect, i can no longer access it,as it doesnt giv me the option to enter the password for the network.

I've successfully connected to the network using a different laptop running XP, finding the wireless networks available and entering the key for my network.

I can access it again if i disable the security, but obviously this isn't desirable.

    Any ideas?

is this an OS issue with WPA?

AFAIK, yes. Just use WEP instead.

Is router set on G and card set to A or B only?

Check in Control Panel Hardware Device Manager Properties on the card.

    Card is a B card.

    Router is set to B/G.

The only options for security are WPA, WPA PSK and PSK.

Any ideas on how i can do this?

In XP, I have the option to view the available wireless networks and can connect to my own accordingly. the others in range oibviously show up.

    This doesnt appear in 2000...

have you tried the wireless properties of your card.

What type of router do you have?

    Its a Motorola WD850G router.

Basically the problem is this. You know in XP when you can view wireless networks in range?

How do you do this in 2000?

Be best to use the software provided with the card or dongle, not sure of W2ks support for Wireless but if theres software that will do it for you use it.

yeah as stated you need to use the software that came with the wireless card/dongle, When you use the software you will need to associate wth the network (put in the network name) and the channel and the WEP (if your using it). its all very easy to do using the software you can also do it in the properties tab when you right click on your network card in network connections ( i think its the second tab in the properties menu....

    hope that helps...
