gut feeling it will be Raikkonen's year but I'd love to see Montoya finally deliver his promise.

Montoya will have to stay off the donuts for that to happen! My money is on Kimi.

Even Kimi sounds doubtful about the Mercedes and McLaren are after losing a few key staff so I think it'll take some time for them to really get on top of things.

Schumacher and Ferrari - well, they could be very strong or it could be time for Schumi to retire, Massa might even get past him.

All the while, Alonso will be putting in reliable performances - seconds and thirds and a few wins too. Can anyone remember Alonso punting someone in an audacious overtaking manoeuvre?

Remember V8 rule is only a gentlemans agrrement and if any manufacturer is unhappy with their pace they can change back to a V10. Red bulls junior team will run with a V10 all year...................

I'm going to go with Schumacher. McLaren look strong but I have a feeling they'll weaken as time goes on without the man that designed the car thre to develop it throughout the season. Montoya was as fast as Raikkonen once he was settled in last year too, they could take points off eachother when they are competitive. Renault will be strong, but I'm not sure how strong considering Alonso is leaving next year and there's a lot of doubts about their long term future. Honda are the other team to watch, I expect them to win a couple of races but not challenge for the title just yet.

Yea toro rosso are using a v 10, but its a restricted v10 (the revs have been restricted) so it will function much like a v 8.

My bets on Kimi to win. If its not him itl be Shumacher (thats if Ferrari have a good car). Cant see Alonso holding on to his crown

I think it will be renault first and Honda in second. There's a chance that McLaren and ferrari may be a bit off the pace.

Renault and Honda do look fast in testing, I can't see Honda being consistent though this year, not yet. Renault obviously will be but there just doesn't seem to be the hunger there, between Alonso heading to McLaren soon and the team constantly saying how they'll be reviewing whether or not its worth staying in F1.

I'm expecting it to be between Ferrari and McLaren. But I reckon Montoya will be able to beat Kimi, and while those two take points off eachother, Schumacher will be cleaning up.

Kimi is over-rated in my opinion. Heidfeld was better than him at Sauber, he missed championship opportunities in the fastest car on the grid in recent years(reliablility has never been good to him, but maybe he overdrives the car), and in particular last year Montoya looked the better driver in the second half of the season once he was used to the car.

you have to wonder about the michelin runners, surely come mid season they will be experimenting with bridgestones, where does it leave them for developing their car throughout the season.i think renault will probably take it though while mclaren falter (would like to see kimi win it) and ferrari fall further back the grid.

    Are ya mad????

He only had sixteen car races under his belt when he entered F1, remember his season in F Renault.
Hiedfeld was a test pilot for Mclaren for a long time before he entered F1, mind you Nick could be a future world Champion if he had quality machinery his championship winning year in F300O was masterfull. Well at least thats my opinion and everybody to their own i suppose.

I see SPA has been canned this year,a pity really as it always threw up a bit of excitement

Exactly, 16 races and he gets offered a Formula 1 seat, one average season in F1 and he gets offered a seat in the fastest car on the grid. That's what I call over rated. 3 seasons later he hasn't achieved all that much. The only team mate he's beaten in Formula 1 is David Coulthard, I'm not gonna count last season because Montoya was out injured, only in the second half of the season did Montoya get a fair run and he looked easily a match for Kimi then.

By the way I do agree that Nick has it in him to be a world champion. He's a very good driver, hopefully it won't take more than a couple of seasons for BMW to get competitive.

    .
kimi had an average season in a crap car and showed his talent. as for montoya last year, you musn't have been watching the same F1 that we were cause he couldn't even keep up with kimi, couple kimis results with the technical failings he had and for ihm to be still competing by august was the mark of a great driver.

anyone who says kimi is over rated doesnt have a clue about f1.

kimi is fast as hell, apart from shumacher, kimi is probably the fastest driver on the grid, and thats not saying shumacher is faster, hes just had alot more time to show his speed.

all i know is that if i could manage an f1 dream team, kimi would be on it!

(Ferrari want kimi, mclaren wana hang on to him, hes probably currently one of the top 3 most wanted drivers onda grid)

montoya (whos my fav driver) can match kimi on speed, but, last year anyway, kimi was more consistant, and if the poor reliability of his car didnt let him down so often, them kimi would have won the championship

I think Kimi desevers it. He had the fasted car and driver combo of last year but was robbed by the rule book IMO. How many races dose the guy have to win from 10th place before people recignise his driving skill

I agree that if Ferrari have the car Schumi should be up there. It would be nice to see him win it back. I think Renualt will still be very strong but i think Montoya is under pressure to perform and I would love to see some good racing between him and Schumi. Raikkonen is a great talent but tends to overdrive the car in my opinion and can make silly mistakes. It will be interesting to see how Massa does , he is a bit wild and it should make for an exciting season. Shame about SPA , always a bit special....

I think its not him and more the team that tend to make the mistakes. Blowing 2 engines in practice and leaving him out on a flat spotted tire cause him to loose not just race but any points he might have gained form piting and then finishing the race. He deserves a tital more so then his follow country man Mika Hakkinen and other mediocer champions like Jacque Villenuve and Damen Hill ever did IMO.

What about the other end of the table who will be last?

I tell ya theres going to be plenty of contenders for that spot this year.

if STR don't have to abide to the engine restrictions it looks like they might leave midlands languishing in the last place, although it depends on how the super team does with their honda technology, they shouldn't be near the end of the grid.

I think Schumacher will come back with avengance this year and win the championship.

He will want to make up for last year, IMO.
